I would give 0 if I could. We rented a car for our anniversary in florida. Made it half way to Fort Lauderdale from Fort Meyers to celebrate our honeymoon with a day full of booked events and dinners for ourselves. Only for the car to STOP WORKING in the middle of the expressway. We called dollar rentals at 9:30AM when it happened. They were not there to get the car rental until 3PM. We waited on the side of the highway on our anniversary with no air conditioning, in the most unsafe location. No bathroom, no food. We cried on the phone pleading for help. We even offered to call our own towing company. We asked if we could Uber to a safer location, when Manager Jayden told us if we “abandoned” the car we would be liable for it. They also told us the tow would cost $700+ if we wanted to tow it back to the airport to get a different car…. They wanted to tow the vehicle to a dealership to “fix it” which child takes HOURS. We cried and pleaded with no avail. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. No compassion.
Wishing someone "good luck" when you don't want their insurance coverage is a scare tactic and low. In the past I've never had an issue but this time around I don't know if they're desperate for employees and just hiring a body count.. but I did not leave feeling good about this. I wouldn't go back to them when there's so many other options. I don't need to be forced into purchasing something when in fact I purchased insurance through the site I used. They wanted to say that doesn't cover anything. Thanks but no thanks
I travel and have a lot of experience with renting cars. I have rented from Dollar before at other locations and it was always a pleasant experience. Not what I encountered at Fort Myers airport. After waiting an hour in line, I was greeted by the worst representative. She was not only condescending and borderline rude, but she also seemed to be a scam artist. She automatically added a ton of options that I didn’t consent to. When I received the actual amount due, it was nearly double the online price. I asked her to explain it to me and she practically said that I needed to purchase their additional insurance and pre pay for gas. She told me that that’s what they do and it’s already included. After going rounds with her, I finally got her to remove all of the extras and my price went down to what I was expecting. She wasn’t happy and neither was I. There is a reason why the line is backed up and they are so slow. They are literally trying to get every extra penny out of you and hope you aren’t smart enough to question all of the extras they add on to your rental. So… now after about 90 minutes, we walk out to get our rental. We were told what area to go to and just pick any car. We find that there are no rentals left. Then we are directed to Hertz. Hertz had ONE vehicle left much bigger than what we requested- didn’t want… but given our experience thus far, we just grabbed it and began to leave. The car had an odor that it had been smoked in before. The windows/windshield was so dirty, it was hard to see out of. We had to stop off and get cleaner and paper towels to clean the inside of the windshield so we could actually be able to see clearly when driving. It was an awful overall experience. Bottom line- there is a reason why Dollar rates are so cheap online. BEWARE.
Completely scammers. Representative scammed me into a $400 car upgrade and did not mention the price increase on any occasion. Did not see charge until I received detailed bill. Nobody answers the phone. Drove 1hour back to the location to complain and they made me pay the fees. Will go with other company next time. NEVER use dollar car rental. Save your TIME and your MONEY.
Trying to scam customers! Rented a car online weeks before my trip. I arrived EXACTLY when I reserved the car for and they did not have a car. Although they offered to upgrade me for an additional fee. They did this to every customer who went to the counter. I counted, at least, 8 other people they did this to. I would never rent from them again. I refused to upgrade. I could find no contact info for the company to deal with my issue and could only contact someone through Facebook Messenger. Within 10 mins of talking to someone on FB messenger I had a free upgrade...that I did not want. If a customer reserves a car the car should be there. What is the point of a reservation if it doesn't hold the car?
I had the misfortune of renting a car from Dollar/Thrifty, and let me tell you, it was a nightmare from start to finish. Not only did they scam me with added charges that I wasn't aware of, but the women at the counter were old/rotund along with being very condescending, making my experience even worse. The cleanliness of the vehicle was absolutely disgusting, with stains and crumbs all over the seats and floor. It was clear that the car hadn't been properly cleaned and maintained, which is unacceptable for a rental car company. To make matters worse, the overall quality of the vehicle was the worst I've ever experienced. The brakes were squeaking, the engine was making strange noises, and the suspension was so bad that I felt every bump in the road. It was clear that the car hadn't been properly maintained and was in dire need of repairs. Overall, my experience with Dollar/Thrifty was a complete disaster. From the added charges to the condescending staff and the poor quality of the vehicle, I would never recommend this company to anyone looking to rent a car. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere.
I recently had a fabulous experience at Dollar in Fort Meyers by the airport. I wanted to upgrade to a convertible with out my teenage kids knowing. Shaun B was awesome and got the job done very quickly and professionally! The kids and I had a great time on our drives to different beaches. Thanks Shaun for making it happen!
Always a great rental experience from start to finish. Easy pickup and return, pleasant staff.. this time we did not need to return car with same amount of gas.. return accepted as is with what was left in the tank. Convenient access across the road from baggage claim. Couldn’t be easier!
We were in Ft Myers recently on a family vacation and got our rental from Dollar and it will be the last time with them. We rented it thru the Priceline app and were given a price of $263, payed approximately $208 at the time of the reservation and it left us a balance of $54 and change at time of pickup and this is where it started to go wrong. I wrongly assumed that would be what we were charged but apparently liability insurance and daily toll coverage was added to our rental and according to them since I signed the agreement then I agreed to it. Did I sign the agreement? Yes I did without looking it over closely which is obviously my fault, however it was never mentioned to me that liability insurance was $34.99 per day or that toll coverage was $13.99 per day, I definitely would not have agreed to this. The only thing mentioned about tolls was a question if we were going on any toll roads and I said we were going to Sanibel Island and the lady at the counter said we had a toll sticker on our windshield that would cover it, no mention of price. When I got my credit card statement I realized they charged me $273 instead of $54 and change so I called Dollar customer service and asked what the extra charges were for and they went over the agreement with me at which time they said I agreed with it at the time so nothing would be done, I asked if I could speak with a manager or someone higher up and the answer I got was no manager was in that day - how convenient. I left them my number and asked to have someone contact me regarding the bill but am still waiting. If you think making a few extra dollars like this is a great way to do business I'm here to say it's the last dollar you'll get from me. Yes I realize I signed the agreement but apparently I was trusting and naive, it won't happen again. It would be nice if they were willing to maybe compromise a bit but not even a little bit. We'll throw in pricey options and see who we can get, well you got me. Buyer beware if you deal with this company, carefully look over your agreement before signing.
Our Rep was polite but had no clue what was left in the parking lot. I mean you'd think they'd have a way to update their system but apparently they don't. She kept telling me i was paying for a Nissan Pathfinder but there was only Kia Sorento. They are not the same. The car was clean and didn't smell so that was a plus.
