Beautiful walk along a deserted beach. It can be a mission to get to the wreck. Although it's worth the trek. I walked along the side of giant storm pipe. Then climbed down to the beach. Took about 35 minutes to walk on a very rocky beach. I would definitely take some good shoes or hiking boots. Very easy to twist your ankle here. I was the only person there the whole time. On the way back I got chased by a swarm of mosquitos. It was a crazy experience.
The shipwreck itself is quite dilapidated, but it's still worth visiting at least once. If you're comfortable with walking on rocks, getting to the shipwreck will be trivial. There are essentially 3 ways to get down to the shipwreck: 1 The official way on AllTrails says to start from the Palos Verdes Coastline Trail, which will take 4.6 miles round trip. It's the most comfortable way to get to the rocky beach, but then you have to walk on the rocky beach for quite some distance. 2 The second option is to come down from Blufftop Trail at PV Cliff. It is a little over 2 miles round trip. The approach to the rocky shoreline is probably the sketchiest, but it has the most beautiful view as you come down. I would only recommend it for those who are comfortable with scrambling on loose terrain. 3 The last option is probably the easiest. You walk down along a massive half buried drain pipe called the Drain Pipe Trail on Maps. This is about 1.5 miles round trip.
Coastal trek to the site of a shipwreck. It’s not so much a hiking trail as it is walking over rocks on the beach trying not to twist your ankle. Hiking boots with ankle support are strongly recommended. Came here with a friend on a Saturday around 10:30am and it was very sunny - make sure to wear sunscreen and sunglasses! There’s no shade. No bathrooms are available on the trail. Street parking is available and if you come in the late morning, it won’t be too hard to find a spot. There were a ton of surfers that were heading back up the trail as we went down, so we must’ve came after the morning rush. It got a bit monotonous after a while going over the rocks, but the ocean breeze felt nice and the view was nice. My friend and I decided to climb up one of the cliff side trails and head back to our cars via the street, so you can get a variety of paths. You’ll also get a look at quite a few pretty houses. Definitely take some time at the site of the shipwreck to sit and watch the little crabs and fish in the shore.
An amazing hike with great sight-seeing. You hike along the shore on rocks with great views of the ocean and cliffs. Shipwreck is cool! The boys loved it!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Oh gosh the hike is an awesome experience. it's a short distance but very strenuous as you have to walk on the big rocky stones along the coast line. the only way I found going down is the drain pipe trail. easy to go down but very tough coming up the same way. wear good shoe, carry water or a stick to support the walk if you want. reaching the wreck would give you the moment of pride and joy. enjoy guys.
This is not a hiking trail is a very rocky beach wit a dangerous way down, if you don’t have experience is going to take you time to get down and up . Parking in the street next to the entrance is close to e pipe . No restroom keep clean .
The first mile is good but then with all the rocks and the smells are around you , you will wish you wouldn't continue till the shipwreck even the ocean wasn't clean at that side those who wanna go to this hike I advise you highly to get hiking boots and hiking sticks bc they are the only ones to help you out well if you bring also a mask for the smell it will be. Great idea .
I took the trail down by the pipeline and it was very steep and covered in broken glass. The view was incredible though. The mile long walk to the shipwreck takes awhile due to it being rocks. Prepare to walk slow and like others have said, wear hiking shoes. Pretty cool parts of the ship left, I'd go before they get completely washed away.
Be sure to check when high tide is before you go on this hike. Wearing shoes with good ankle support is also highly recommended since you're walking on loose rock along the ocean. There's a parking lot about 1 mile away from the beginning of the trail and you'll have to walk on the street until you reach the dirt path down.
A little tough getting down there because of a steep walk and a lot of stones on the way. Once at the wreck however, it was amazing to ponder how the ship got to the condition it is now. Be very careful not to cut yourself on any of the rusted metal parts!
