Some of the hiking was challenging for a couple of senior citizens, but it's a beautiful park. Good signage and the paths are well maintained.
Donald park is so beautiful! The trails are elegant, well maintained, and uncrowded. It's amazing that so few people visit Donald park relative to other county parks.... But it is a relatively new addition to the public county lands. The terrain is varied but accessible without being physically overwhelming. Take a picnic and some water... Take your time and enjoy this huge gorgeous place Make sure to visit the oak copse that is farthest away from the parking area... It is positively meditative...
Absolutely beautiful with great trails. Too bad the road is so close
Took a stroll here today was a great day! Said hello to Donald rock, passed by the historic cabin site, the big natural spring and took in some great views!
Donald County Park is a short drive from Madison, and is otherwise easily accessible from its parking lot or several trail heads in the south east and west. The main points of interest are the trout stream, the several bubbling springs that are well worth a visit, and the nice views from the hilltop prairie in the central segment, as well as the overlooks to the southeast and just to the northwest of the central Donald rocks - both views are better when the leaves have fallen or are yet to return. The park is dog friendly with a leash, has horse hitching posts, and has an event shelter with a single toilet adjacent to the central parking lot. I recommend a loop that stops at the spring by the archaeological site, then across the hillside prairie and back into the woods to loop around through the sandy pine grove.
Great anytime of the year! Great for Hiking/ horseback riding. So much to explore always lots of wildlife to see along the way, some paths go through woods others open prairies, up hills and down. Many streams and bridge crossings.
Nice trails. Good trout stream. Can be popular at times but also you can be the only one there. Fantastic hiking. You will some road traffic but it's still a nice set of trails that are well maintained
What a super cool park. We started off of G rather than the spot Google maps gives you. There was a huge sandstone formation that gives you a good challenge at the start. Then we went on the spring trail with plenty of shade and trout Lilly. High recommendation.
The primary delight is the small crystal clear creek you can walk directly beside. Great walking and hiking.
Beautiful park with rocky craigs, bubbling springs, and restored prairies. The trail network is extensive and there are trails suitable for any fitness levels.
