I was told this is the most authentic vietnamese food place in Dallas area... Its my first time here .. I got the pork plate and ..the pork was good tasting. . A little dry for my taste . But its not bad... id come back again to try the beef plate.. good service , I got this $10 dollar Sugarcane drink...taste hints of orange juice but the drink is pretty unique and good...for that price Im not sure id get it again... but unique good taste ...
The crab in the Cua Rang Muối and Cơm Cua Lá Sen dish was mushy which meant it was not fresh. There was also a lack of meat after opening the crab. The roasted quail did not taste good at all. I did like the Hến Xúc Bánh Tráng dish as the salty clams went well with the sesame rice cracker. Lastly, the physical menu itself is nice as each item has an accurate English description and sometimes even an image.
Great taste. Spacious place. Like the food and the service. Minus a star for how loud the place could get. They often have group diners who drink and party for hours Super noisy. And the restroom is super smelly.
Excellent, as always, been several times and consistently great. Fresh vegetables and perfectly grilled meat. Sirloin was so tender.Food: 5/5
I got Bún Bò Huế Hue Styles Vermicelli Soup. Broths are kinda sweet, for me it doesn't taste how I imagine. Also I really like Pork Blood, but they don't have it. Service was good and quick.Food: 3/5
Order a large ca nuong da gion bake catfish now the server look like he don’t want to be there. Never once came check up on us. I had to go up to get more drink order when my guest arrived. I understand completely how everyone is in the business to make money and make customers happy. But how in the world if I’m ordering a large fish for 70 dollar I get only one small side of noodle. So I order another side of noodle when we ran out. Charge me 3 dollar. I understand inflation etc etc. but why did I just pay 80+ for a couple meal and get one order of noodle. That’s like ordering 5 noodle dish for two and only get one order of noodle. If I would’ve ask for a 3rd side of noodle I totally understand. But not the second one lol. Definitely going to Saigon block next time around. I had four ppl with me and order an extra large catfish. They brought extra noodle without me even asking. An I gave extra tip. It’s not about the 3 dollar. It’s about common sense and principles
Food is great. Has many menu items. The one thing I don't see at any other restaurant is the green mango salad. I've only found it at one other restaurant near Chico. After you mix the sauce that they give you on the side with it its amazing. The green leaves they mix in it make the dish even better. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They have an area for large parties. Vegetarian options: Lots of dishes you can exclude meat or fish from the dish and maybe add tofu. Kid-friendliness: I see many families in there with very young kids. Lots of menu items if your kids like asian food. Parking: Big parkinglot up front Wheelchair accessibility: There are no stairs in the restaurant and tables that will fit a wheelchair. They have a couple of different spots along the sidewalk where a wheelchair can roll up.
We went there yesterday for dinner and ordered banh canh cua, cha ha noi, and sua dau xanh. The banh canh cua was decent. Broth was creamy and had good flavor but too thick and have a starchy after taste, probably they used too much thickening flour, noodles was soft and not overly chewy. The stirred-fried pork in the bun cha ha noi was really tasty, great seasoning and not too salty. The vegetables, noodles and even the prepared fish sauce is pretty good. The only negative thing of the bun cha ha noi is the ground meat that came with the stirred-fried pork. It doesn’t taste like meat, it falls apart when i tried to separate it into smaller pieces and the seasoning is unlike any other bun cha ha noi I have in the past. I guess i am not used to their flavor. The sua dua xanh was good but too sweet for me. You can taste the mung bean i think this what the flavor is in evey sip. My wife loves it. Based on other Vietnamese reviews on here, this place is a hit or miss base on the dish. EDIT: I went here for dinner over Labor Day week and it was packed. The line was out the door and the wait time was over 30 mins. Even with the crowd, we were sitted within 30 mins as promised. Waiters took our order promptly and brought our drinks fast. I was impressed considering how busy it was. We ordered the baked fish, bo la lop, and bake clams. The bake fish was divine. The vegetables were crisped and fresh. the fermented sauce was not too salty and has the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and saltiness. The fish was crisped and moist. However, unlike the baked fish at Saigon block, they do not remove the bones for you. It was still good and I enjoyed it very much. The other two dishes were not up to par as the bake fish. The bo la lop was moist, a bit chewy, but too damn salty. Same goes for the baked clams. The flavors and seasonings for these two dishes were great but on the salty side.
If I am ever in the area and need variety of items to pick from, Dong Que has so many excellent entrees enjoy. They can be pretty busy so make sure to call ahead if you have a large group. The service could use a little work but I understand since they are so busy.Food: 5/5
Since I was craving for “banh canh cua” aka Vietnamese crab noodle soup and many people recommend this place for it, so I decided to try it out. Sadly they don’t have “banh canh cua” in their menu anymore, but “banh canh do bien” instead. The soup was good, especially with breadsticks gio chao quay. The noodles were hard and not chewy at all so I was disappointed. There were only 2-3 small shrimps, couple small pieces of squid and fish balls. I personally think that the dish is not worth the price.
