Doolittle House

Mission

The long-term goal for the Doolittle House is to provide the public with the opportunity to experience American, Western Reserve and Hudson history first hand. We plan to introduce each guest to a historically accurate representation of the original owner, his family and their lives during the Victorian era. We hope to create an atmosphere that far surpasses any history class by engaging each guest personally and guaranteeing a different experience with each visit.

Our guests will be able to engage in conversation and interact over dinner with the recreated Doolittle family and village residents for a unique culinary-theater experience set in the 19th Century.

We will expand upon the experience by offering interactive programs to schools, day cares, camps and various clubs. Elementary through college-age students will be given the opportunity to discover cultural wares and customs of the time period. Our wide-ranging programs will allow them to explore the regional traditions of Northeast Ohio and its people, while being encouraged to participate in hands-on activities and educational discussions with the historical interpreters. Students will explore the social, cultural, economic and agricultural growth of Ohio through our different timeline programs: Settler, Canal, Civil War, and Victorian.

Our "Garden to Cafeteria" program will connect gardening and school lunches through seasonal harvests by exposing the student, teacher and parent bodies to the benefits of the class garden. Participants will learn how delicious and healthy vegetables are, increase their agricultural literacy and gain interest in our regional food system by turning the school cafeteria into a learning environment.

We also plan on offering the grounds and house for rental opportunities; weddings, receptions, bonfires, barbecues, Civil War encampments and photography sites are just a few examples of possible client events.
