This is yet another beautiful, rustic Nat’l Park campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is not as pretty as some of the others, the sites are not that large so choose carefully, but we like them all better than private campgrounds. We’ve stayed here twice-once in a smaller site along the outer perimeter and this time in A1, the first as you enter and closest to the Parkway. It was open and sunny great for charging our solar and surprisingly quiet as there was little traffic; especially at night. We did the gentle hike to The Bluffs Restaurant through forests and meadows as well as the hike in the opposite direction to the old homestead called Brinegar cabin. We highly recommend both. We held back a star due to the condition of the bathroom. Rustic is ok but there was no lighting at all and it was not too clean. We intend to go back and highly recommend.
Wonderful place to stop and chill in the mountains. The high grassy meadows with sweeping vistas complement rushing streams and antique Appalachian cabins.
Spacious campground with bathrooms. 20 USD per night for space with picnic table and fire ring. And a resident bear apparently…
Nice and quiet campground. There are bathrooms and water available. Not crowded and great hiking trails ate close by at Doughton Park.
Good tent sites, lots of options, clean facilities. We'll definitely be back.
Very inexpensive basic camping in a beautiful place. $20 a night gives fairly level back in RV camping with water only and an in-the-loop pull through dump station. There is no gate to keep people from driving through. On the opposite side of the road are tent campground with a gate house. Both camp loops have bath houses with dry camping. Note the showers are cold water only. Have your RV hot water heater ready to go for showers. Thus, a greywater caddy will make longer stays easier. Great hiking at the picnic area meadows, food at the park restaurant and a small gift shop are a mile south and a mile north is a frontier cabin with garden that are open during select hours check with the ranger for tours.
Loved this campground. Small, there are some AT&T reception, enough to do basic browsing and streaming TV. There are some very shaded spots and there are a few on the sun if you have solar, you can get good sun on these spots. There is a beautiful hike through thick woods and meadows to Brinegar Cabin, it says it's a mile, but it was 3 miles back and forth after walking around in the cabin. From that trail, there are other trails accessible. Very peaceful during the week.
Just arrived seems quiet and bathrooms adequate. Food boxes for motorcycles luckily; only 3.
Beautiful park. Well maintained! Our site was perfect in every way! Will be back!
Besutiful, quiet, shaded campground. Easy access from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Site A9 was our favorite/ most unique site.
