Down to Earth Apothecary was created by me, Katie Buxton, I am a registered nurse with over 10 years experience in the western medical field and over 15 years experience studying and working with herbal treatments.
I unfortunately see a lot of opposition in health care when it comes to these two different types of treatments. I think the greatest combination for optimal health comes from a careful diet and treating illness and traumas with temporary herbal or western treatments. I realize that there are most always exceptions to the rule but I think that this combination works best for most people.
I think herbs are very powerful and beneficial treatments for various ailments. I also believe that they underutilized and misunderstood. This is why Ive created a line of products that have similar benefits to common OTC western treatments.
In addition to my herbal line of products I also have an all natural body care line of products. This began several years ago when I decided that I needed to eliminate unnecessary chemicals in my life. The biggest area I found a need for improvement in was in my bathroom cupboard. I had lots of lotions, perfumes, harsh shampoos, various hair products and several drawers full of all types of makeup. In all of these products I realized I had no idea what most of them were comprised of. It was a shocking realization and so I began looking into natural body care products. After a couple of years of using gross natural toothpaste, chemical free deodorants that didn't really work and super expensive makeup I decided that there had to be a better way. And so I began making my own products.
Everything I have in my store I also use myself and I have been very happy with my creations. I only use the highest quality products, I get organic when available and if possible I try to wild craft my own local herbs that I use. Any animal products that I use (beeswax etc) are from humanely treated creatures. And the only animals that products are tested on would be me and my friends and family. :)
Note: I will be growing my product line with demand, so as my store increases in popularity and profitability I will be able to bring to market new products. What you see in the store currently is just a small sample of what I have and will eventually carry in the store.
