Our private Christian school serves K5-12 grade students and families in the central Florida area. Check out our website for more information.
Founded in 1977, Downey Christian School has been preparing students to succeed in life and in their chosen careers. Whether in the classroom, in the field of sports or around campus, Downey aims to reflect Jesus Christ in all we do. With small class sizes and highly prepared teachers, our students find their educational experience fulfilling.
In the words of Jaime, an 8th grader, "When I was in public school I really struggled to do my work and pass the FCAT. Since I came to Downey four years ago, my grades have really improved. The teachers here care about their students."
PREPARING STUDENTS FOR THIS WORLD AND THE NEXT.
Our world is changing so fast! From one day to the next, technology is changing, science is changing, even our maps and geography are changing. Our students need to have the foundational principles to allow them to adapt knowledge to the world around them. Our goal is to prepare students to achieve success today and tomorrow.
There is another aspect of our future world for which Downey seeks to prepare its students. This world is not our home. We seek to prepare our students for the heavenly world where they will spend eternity. God’s Word provides the basis for all of our education.
Two excellent curricula are available at DCS. We have traditional classes which use the ABEKA curriculum. This is a setting similar to what you would find in a typical public school. The difference is, our class material is Christian in nature and philosophy and our teacher to student ratio in grades 3-12, is limited to 22 students per classroom. Early grades (Kindergarten through grade 2) are limited to 18 students per classroom. Currently we have a waiting list for several grades due to this policy.
In addition to ABEKA, our school offers ACE curriculum. The beauty of the ACE classroom is that the student can progress at the rate which is best for that particular child whether they are struggling to succeed or advanced and need greater challenges.
