Dr. Shaffer took on my son’s case and because of the nature of the infection, treated him promptly, reworking his schedule to get him in for surgery next day. My son is only 3 and was in a lot of pain. He ate a goldfish cracker on the way to the surgery and messed up the whole schedule as he was not supposed to eat that morning. Dr. Shaffer was understanding of the situation and made accommodations so that he could have the procedure done that day. My husband and I were amazed at the precision and care he took with the stitches to close the wound back up and minimize scarring. Dr. Shaffer is not an overly chatty person, but his compassion and level of care he showed my son was unparalleled. I couldn’t be more pleased with his office and would highly recommend him.
If I could rate them less I would. Took my son in for pain he was having and instead of looking at the area in which my son was having pain he did an ultrasound on my son's bladder before and after going to the bathroom and told me. His issue was because my autistic child wasn't fully potty trained by 3 1/2 yrs old and I was told get him out of Diapers and " he'll stop complaining eventually" obviously that wasn't an answer and 5 seconds at Norton's children and them actually looking at where he complained of pain and the issue was obvious and would of been to any trained professional, especially a male. I would not suggest this practice to my worst enemy they are lazy and incompetent and just want a mom shame when my child wasn't potty trained at what they thought was inappropriate time. So they deserve zero out of five stars.
Special shout out to Dr. Schaeffer and his staff for caring for my little girl. My wife and I are blessed and forever grateful that god led us to Dr. Schaeffer. We had been to many doctors previously who only led us along and prolonged her urinary issues. Dr. Schaeffer took her under his wing and performed a surgery that we dreaded for years. We couldn’t have asked for better care and support. Dr. Schaeffer was there for us every step of the way and even took our phone calls over Memorial Day weekend preceding her surgery. We can’t thank him enough and highly recommend him to take care of any kiddos that might need a healing hand.
My daughter saw Dr. Schaeffer for urology issues related to Spina Bifida. The bottom line is he rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate. I have been a nurse for 38 years and have met many personalities of physicians but this one is by far the worse I have ever dealt with personally or professionally. If I listed everything I dealt with regarding him or this office over the time I had to deal with him, it would be a novel so I’ll spare the details. If you have a choice go somewhere else and save yourself from the emotional abuse. My daughter is deceased now so I feel I can speak openly and freely. But basically take your child anywhere else but to his man who lacks any kind of bedside manner or personality.
CAUTION: This is the worst care I have ever had the misfortune to be privy to. Things got off wrong when the doctor was confrontational and rude because I didn't know the signs of being in urinary distress. He was completely cold and callous when examining my grandson with an ultrasound. My child was scared as he is 3 and didn't understand that it wasn't going to hurt him. Instead of attempting to calm him and talk to him he just kept rudely telling me to hold him down. I left the office feeling like the worst parent I have custody ever. On the way home I realized that I couldn't remember the name of the otc medication that I was supposed to give along with the prescription. I called the office during hours and left a message. Later I called the office and left a second message. The next day I called the office and actually had someone answer the phone, my message was never returned. A couple of days later my grandson was exhibiting problems that prompted me to make another phone call for assistance; message left. No return phone call. After being on the prescription which can cause behavior changes for about 10 days we started noticing severe mood swings. The person on call at the pediatrician's office sent us to the ER. They confirmed that he was showing adverse reaction to the medication and told me to suspend it until I talked to the prescribing physician. That was 3 days ago. Still waiting for the return phone call from Dr. Schaeffer's office. We were in the ER because of prescribed medication and this doctor and his staff which reflect on the doctor and his attitude can't even be bothered to return a phone message. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR CARE.
Awesome! If I could give them a 10 I would. A close relative and I went to him the close relative went when he was an infant and he had to see him years later, which was very recent Great Doctor all three times. The receptionists are great too. I was adamant about them being wrong about something. I later found out my source was lying the whole time. To make a long story short they were all very patient with me and I owe them an apology. He is a great Doctor and he was concerned about this misunderstanding. Very professional through it all. They have went above and beyond across the board. I definitely recommend Dr. Schaeffer. Patient, compassionate, very thorough and understanding. His receptionists follow suit.
I have to say Dr. Schaeffer is the best when it comes to trusting your childs life in his hands. Our 2yr old daughter had a major surgery done on her kidney and Dr. Schaeffer ended up spending 5 1/2 hours operating on her at Baptist Health. He done a wonderful job on her and the hospital was great with her. I would highly recommend him to anyone and if anyone in my family has to have surgery done and his able to perform that type of surgery, he will be our number one choice. We ended up staying 5 days in the Baptist Health hospital and he came in and checked up on her everyday and the staff working that floor made our baby feel as comfortable and home like as possible. Our daughter has been in and out of doctors since birth and everyone of them had misdiagnosed her and due to it going so long the infection was killing her kidney, but Dr. Schaeffer discovered the issue in the very first appointment and confirmed it with a follow up test. We are very thankful the Lord gave us peace to let her have this surgery because he did an amazing job. If I had to rate him I would give him 110%. Thank you so much.
If I could give this place no stars, I would. The front desk staff is very unprofessional and rude. Neither of them were wearing a mask, even while I was standing right in front of them talking. I cannot comment on the doctor because we never actually saw him. I spoke to them on the phone on two separate occasions and felt as if I was a bother for asking a couple simple questions. I received short answers just enough to get me off the phone. We waited over a month for our appointment only to get there and be told that “if surgery was needed, we would have to pay out of network costs”. She mentioned nothing about what would happen for just an office visit. I simply asked if we could go ahead with the appointment and if surgery was needed, I would find a different doctor to do it that was in network with my insurance. She said that was no problem and proceeded to have me fill out 20 minutes worth of paperwork. I turned the paperwork in and she told me that I was going to have to pay a ridiculous amount of money up front for the visit before I could be seen. Had she of told me that before, I would have just left. But, she waiting until I had wasted 30 minutes of my time with a screaming hangry baby to do paperwork. Why they couldn’t tell me that my insurance was out of network when I made the appointment, I have no idea!
Seeing a doctor in the time of Covid-19 understandably has different protocols. My husband and I just left Dr. S's office without our son seeing him. Walking into the office, I was shocked to see the specialist's waiting room packed with patients waiting to be seen. What's worse, the two Medical Assistants sitting at the check-in weren't wearing masks. In a doctor's office! If those two don't have to wear masks, I cannot expect that the rooms inside would be properly cleaned/disinfected for the next patient. Adding to that, there was a patient in the waiting room with her mask below her nose. There are no protocols against Covid-19 in this doctor's office. What should it look and sound like? My pediatrician's office has us call when we arrive, they have us stay in our car until the office is clear, then they call us to come up. As it should be because we're living in a time of Covid-19. No one is in the waiting room, everyone wears a mask, and there is hand sanitizer everywhere. I did call the office once we were in the car to notify them we had left and the reason why. I hope they take all of this into consideration for the sake of public safety.
Took my daughter to get her ears pierced and was the worst and most un caring man ever! I took her there because they could numb her but the numbing medication takes 45 minutes, which I was not told. Her ears are completely off and I'm having to take her somewhere else to get them re-done! All he was worried about was getting out of there because it was Friday! Plus I had to wait 2 hours till they got her back!!
