F. Ames Smith, Jr., MD, FACS - Medical Director, Breast Surgery; Hereditary Cancer Risk Clinic
My practice is focused exclusively on diseases of the breast, and I try to encourage preventative aspects of care as well. My priorities are emphasis on multi-disciplinary aspects of care, networking, and support for my patients. I am board certified in general surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
I have been honored through election into the Alpha Omega Alpha in 1987, and have received a number of other honors through the years. I served as Chairman of Surgery at St. David’s from 2007 to 2009.
As Breast Surgery Medical Director at the Polyclinic, I hope to bring experience, knowledge and skills which I have gained while in Austin. My greatest honor without question has been the priviledge of treating my patients while there.
I am a member of the American Society of Breast Disease, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the King County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.
I enjoy speaking conversational Spanish and German whenever helpful. My wife (also a practicing physician) and I have a son and daughter. We love our new home in the emerald city (all members of the family are on board!). However, we will miss everyone in Austin, and hope somehow to stay connected.
