The family who runs the front office, are super friendly and very welcoming! And all staff were very nice. The majority of spots are seasonal, however the rental spots were all pretty nice including shade. The front spots are close to highway so you could hear highway noise all hours, and they seemed like they didn't have very much privacy. The rental spots in the back were GREAT! VERY SPACIOUS & had privacy. The pools were nice, and well maintained. The lifeguards were all good about safety. The only complaint was the concession stands weren't open very often so you definitely needed to plan for cooking yourselves which is no big deal....other than that....it was good...kids didn't have a lot to do except for pool & mini golf....not ideal for standard bike riding...it has gravel and hills everywhere so any non pro bikers would find it challenging ....had a great stay though!
3.5 stars...We stayed in a cottage. It was convenient to have a few pots/pans although they weren't a great quality and the linens already there. Nice set up with kitchenette and separate bunk room but the beds were so so hard and for the amount of money spent per night, I'm not sure if we would choose it again. Campground is large and has a nice stream the kids enjoyed around the back of the property. We could hear the traffic from the road when we were outside but wasn't so loud that it was a problem from inside.
After debating on pros n cons. I decided on a 5 star. Pros: They let us check in early. We had a nice site. Ours was easy to get to off the main road. Staff is friendly. Lots of activities on the weekends. Great fun little arcade. Mini golf is clean. Pool was closed due to the end of season so can't judge pool. But the water slide looked awesome. Laundy is $2. Con: Almost no parking for cars for activities. Lots of boulders all threw out park n by roads which can make it tricky to get around towing. We were about the middle of the park and could hear cars on the highway. Some bathrooms could use a touch up.
In short; don't stay here, it isn't worth it. You overpay for little to no amenities, terrible or no customer service, and a filthy campground. We stayed for a week in August of 2022. The only saving grace and the only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is its location. You are 5 minutes away from historical downtown and the visitor center and museum. You check in via their website and you are assigned your site ahead of time. The whole 6 days we were there we did not speak to a single member of the staff. The campground is poorly laid out and signage is minimal when present. If you are unable to download the map of their website beforehand good luck locating your site. After locating our site, it was not clean, there was trash on the ground, and the fire pit was full of coals and ash. The site, while big, was not level and as far as i could tell none of the sites were. The site next to ours had new people come in twice while we were there and neither time was the site even looked at by staff. If you are assigned to the side closest to the front of the campground you will always here the highway noise and truckers will keep you up with their engine brakes all night. Most of the sites are seasonal and the people are loud at all hours. If there are quiet hours supposedly from 11pm-8am they are not enforced. Drinking and partying and people riding around golf carts until at least 1 am and later. Drummer Boy calls itself a "camping resort" and you pay a premium for it. We paid a premium for what was a essentially a trailer park that constantly smelled of sewage. If you don't have a filter for your potable water, bring one. On our second day the water from the site hookup began to smell like sewage not sulfur, sewage and continued through the rest of our stay. We will not be returning. Stay at the Gettysburg KOA for a comparable price and drastically better service.
Nice large lots. Clean easy access restrooms. They had many programs including a band. We were too busy for the pool but it was gorgeous looking. We rented a gof cart which are it easy for me to get around since I am disabled. We will definitely return next year
Drummer Boy is very large and a golf cart is needed if you want to explore all parts of the resort. We did not know this and do not have a golf cart, so that was tough. They really should warn people ahead of time to rent them as they told us when we arrived,, but they were all rented out. Nothing too special or unique about it other than two nice pools and good shade. Most of the sites are seasonal and the road noise, as well as golf cart noise, is so incredibly loud it was impossible to relax and talk sitting outside at night. Quiet hours were not observed. The other issue was in the pools everyone was drinking and smoking and the smoking was so excessive it was difficult to enjoy our time in the pool. There is a no smoking sign, but it's not enforced and most of the pool is filled with drunk adults with cans in hand that the kids have to play around. The activities they had were good overall. Our other big issue is we booked almost a full year ahead and they put us in a site too small for our trailer when we checked in. They said it would be fine, but it wasn't. We made it work, but we didn't really fit. When we shared we had told them our trailer length upon booking, they told us they could put us in an Elite site, but we'd have to pay extra when we already booked the proper site a year ago and they messed up. That was not a good way to start our first experience here. They should have owned up to tge mistake and placed us in the available elite site without acting as though it was our problem to deal with. I feel bad not being able to leave 4 stars, but the noise level and smoking at the pools was so intense we were exhausted all weekend due to lack of sleep from noise and my husband and daughter have been hacking all weekend due to the smokers galore. If you are a smoker, you'll love the place...
Best campground I've been to so far this year. Rented a three bedroom cabin with no disappointment. When entering the cabin I was just so amazed how clean and maintained this rustic cabin was. I felt like I just walked into another time period just a bit modernized. Two bedrooms, a bunk room. Three TVs, pullout bed in living room full size kitchen, and bathroom. Two pools that were very clean. Didnt have burning eyes. I felt special to see that they also had towels, bedding and pillows for us to use. The view from the porch was picturesque. My stresses seemed to disappear and just taking moments to reflect on important things in life just filled my heart with new meaning and joy. Life is short and work is stressful, staying at this campground allowed us as a family to reconnect and disconnect from reality giving us a new outlook on life and remaining humble and thankful. The world is still beautiful and this is one beautiful campground. I will definitely visit again.
Have always loved Drummer Boy and have been going there for over 8 years. This year will probably be my last. They have doubled the rates for overnight camping which has made them one of the most expensive options in the area. All the roads are gravel and there are no concrete pads but yet they still charge more than any other campgrounds that do have concrete, playgrounds, dog runs, Etc. Sad to see Thousand Trails come in and destroy one of my favorite campgrounds
Maybe it used to be decent, but it's very poorly maintained. During our five night stay, the waterslide was broken for two days, the hot tub was broken the entire week. The contractor that runs the pool in the back of the campground is very rude. The RV site was decently level, but we had a nice view of the neighbors sewer hookup about 10 feet away. Very close to highway 15, and lots of road noise. Wifi was paid and awful $15/week and speed was between 300 kbps and up to 5 Mbps. very spotty and streaming was difficult. The campstore, arcade and mini golf closes at 6pm on weekdays. The arcade was dirty. The bathroom near the arcade had a hole in the floor and was rotting. Mainly gravel roads, which make riding bikes difficult, lots of dust too. We were in the 300 section and had to drive to the front. Bring a golf cart. The mini golf was okay but watch for poison ivy and mosquitos. I mean clean it up, it's overgrown with weeds. The playground is pitiful. There are three swings, but two are for babies. The old movie theater is boarded up. Very little for young kids to do, must be 48" tall to even do the waterslide. I talked to the front desk to voice my concerns politely and they promised to have a manager contact me...never did, but they did leave timeshare advertisements at our site. It's packed on the weekends, we ended up trip home early, but honestly wanted to stay somewhere else the first day. Waste of $400.
This campground is very well maintained. We really enjoyed our short weekend trip. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. My kids really enjoyed all the activities they had to offer. Mini golf is super kid friendly. Gold cart rentals are available, that’s a huge plus. The “full timers” do a Friday night golf cart parade to include tossing out candy. The carts looked amazing and all the participants smiled, waved and showed they really care about making our stay feel comfortable. WE WILL BE BACK FOR SURE. Thank You DBC
