I have 2 kids in the same grade at this school. They have been a student since the first year it has opened! The front office is wonderful! We have a blended family and they are wonderful with all of us! 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade teachers have been by far the best teachers I have come across in Duval County. You can truly see the difference from the beginning and end of the year when it comes to what they are being taught and HOW they are being taught! If you are having any troubles reaching the principal I STRONGLY encourage to use her email. She responds pretty fast or within 24 hours. While volunteering at the school I noticed how engaged she is with the students and staff. Even though they know me by face, I am treated like any other parent. I am asked for my car tag to get my children whom they know well and it’s comforting. The Art teachers and music teachers are amazing as well! It is a great school and the only complaint I have ever had was with aftercare. I removed my children from aftercare due to the change of structure. The first year was great. After that, my kids would beg not to go and I saw more frustration with the aftercare instructors than compassion and patience. My kids “weren’t allowed” to do homework in aftercare nor was there a schedule for them. The first year it was organized, homework was completed and the kids were upset if I came early. That’s the only con. The rest exceeds 5 stars!!!! Looking forward to 2018-2019 school year!!!
Definitely tried to like this school since it was convenient and new, but all it provided were crushed hopes. The teachers don't have enough experience so they can't control their classes, students are all treated the same and those that should earn punishments do not. How are you going to let a child that does not pay attention in class or do his/her work to go play with his/her friends in recess? How is that child allowed to have free homework passes when they should be getting extra work? You can't approach all children with the same approach and that seems to be the main issue at this school. The teachers are nice, sure, but these kids don't need pushovers - they need to learn there is a time to play and a time to work! Otherwise they will fail/struggle at life. School should be about more than just academics, but I don't see that being addressed here.
We love this school! The reviews written by students should really be considered invalid lol This last year was their first year open, and I enrolled my 3rd grader, and 2 of my other neighbors also enrolled their students. They are a great school, my son's teacher Mrs. Miller was AMAZING! They seem to truly care for the children and their success. We have changed schools twice before this and won't be leaving Duval Charter at Flagler Center for as long as they let him stay lol! Thank you to all the teachers and staff that worked so hard throughout the year to make it a successful one! Can't wait for next year!
Negligence in supervision, lack of integrity and blatant disregard for the students best interest are pervasive throughout this school. If you want to ensure that your child's safety and well-being is a priority then please explore another school! My son came home on several occasions with scratches on his arm, punched by another student and with stories of physical violence as a common theme during recess, free-time as well as during the after-care program. I sent a detailed account through email with pictures and my concerns to the principle, assistant principle and dean of the school and received no reply. When I met in person with them they were unable to produce student to teacher ratios, identify any adults that witnessed any of the events and in response to my concern that the children involved had received disciplinary action and to how many kids witnessed the several events, I was told that "I was not legally entitled to the information." They approached me with defensiveness, excuses and pure lack of information when my main priority was the safety of my son in a place where that should not be an issue. While going through this process I encountered several other mothers and fathers who described similar situations to me and even discussed the lawsuit that they attempted to bring against the school, but could not bring to fruition because legalities prevented them from suing the charter school as a single entity and rather they would have to sue the entirety of CSUSA Charter Schools. I have notified the CSUSA Charter Schools Head office and hope that they can investigate the operations of the school as a whole. In the meantime, chose wisely.
Terrible school! My kids have been here since they opened. Since last my son has been getting bullied. It happens more in the aftercare program. Still waiting on a phone call from the dean regarding my sons glasses that he just got 2 weeks ago & were broken due to him getting tackled by one of his bullies. We have asked for the dean to call us back to get the boys parents to pay for the repairs & are still waiting. Why is it ok to let these kids stay in the program after multiple reports of them bullying other kids?! They should be expelled from the aftercare program with no refund to the parents! This is ridiculous!
We've been there since it opened. Amazing teachers, principals and staff. Ms. Bailey is a huge help in the office along with the other staff members. The teachers truly care about the kids. We feel lucky to be there.
Just don't....terrible experience for my child. They just responded to my FB post a few days ago, in which I did months ago when I pulled my child out of this school!Noticed their score dropped as well. You can no longer even read reviews on FB it's hidden!!!So glad this school is behind us now...
Excellent school. My daughter attends for kindergarten. Professional staff, secure facility and plenty of extracurricular activities.
Terrible school , the staff is unfriendly and abrupt . The principle does not make anything a priority for as a concern . I have been trying to get in contact with the principle since my daughter started in August nothing has been done regarding the issue.
This school is terrible literliauly every teacher is strict i dislike this school you dont learn it is just computers in sixth grade and i got in trouble for tossing a water bottle to my freiend
