Beautiful school right next to City Park. Caught my eye as I was driving around the park.
East High School has a good amount of classes, but I cannot stand the people there, especially the kids and teachers. But, my main concern is that they need to find better teachers, half of them have bad attitudes. One teacher I had in freshmen year would easily snap at the students -- I hated my teachers more in Sophomore year, I've been kicked out for telling the teacher that the assignment was easy to her but not to me, she has kicked out other students for not reading, but would barely kick out any students who would cuss or throw things around which is not fair. Another time, this teacher threatened me to go to the Dean's Office, because one of my partners had a laptop and I didn't.. I was standing while I was on my phone to look up information and he told me I wasn't doing my work, but he didn't look at my phone? Then he said he's getting pissed off just for telling him I am doing my work.. there has been other issues I've had with the teachers especially racist/bigoted ones. I know this is a bit personal, but I wanted to share my experience with the teachers. Definitely need some work!! If it wasn't for the huge range of classes they had I would leave this school immediately.
This place has such a positive atmosphere towards its staff and students. Its a great place to learn, make friends, and get different view points towards certain topics. Its an over all amazing high school which as a great community and learning system.
Despite recent problems with the cheerleading team, East High School consistently supports its student body with a very strong faculty. The classes here are numerous and all taught very well, the extracurricular activities are plentiful, the sports programs are generally strong, and there are lots of opportunities for student. In my time at east, I have met amazing friends, participated in many musicals all of which were awesome, thanks to strong theater, music, choir, and dance departments, seen a few fall plays, been to lots of sports events the boys soccer team is especially good and fun to watch!, and met many, many, kind and thoughtful staff members. This is the kind of special place where pretty much anybody, down to the security guards and janitorial crew, cares about you. Yes, East is still high school, and any public inner-city high school has its problems... but don’t discount East simply because you’ve heard bad things about the teachers, the sports coaches, the students. It is truly a Denver gem.
really awesome school. this was the first year I attended and everyone teachers, counselors, principals, students, etc. are all so welcoming. I feel as if other new students will feel the same.
Truly a magnificent building and their tradition of architectural structure has made this cool stick out more than all the rest located next to Civic Park of Joshua's statue and the Martin Luther King exhibit of significant cherished heritage of the African American community.
During the Viet Nam War, East High School was a prime draft pool of impoverished students. It had the reputation of being little more than a dilapidated shell of its former glorious days. Even the long-abandoned tower had been condemned. The quality of education was the worst in Denver, and I graduated in 1973 unable to correctly form a paragraph. I have nothing but bitter memories of that baby-sitting facility. I'm pleased however to witness all the wonderful charges that have occurred since the Dark Ages of East. - Samuel "Ralph" Allen, M.S., C.P.W.
