EASTCONN’s Arts at the Capitol Theater (ACT) is a public, performing arts magnet high school with FREE enrollment for Connecticut students.
ACT offers an integrated approach to instruction, infusing standards-based academic courses with a variety of arts disciplines, and providing differentiated instruction to address individual learning needs.
Students in grades 9-12 study with certified academic teachers and professional artists in this small, arts-focused learning community. Each grade is limited to about 35 students, making this an intimate, focused, artistic learning environment.
A unique, extended-day schedule from 8:45 a.m. to 4:25 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 8:45 a.m. to 1:07 p.m. on Fridays, allows students to take 12 classes per semester and fully immerse themselves in the performing arts, whether on stage, or behind the scenes.
Areas of artistic study include: Acting/ Vocal Performance, Audio/Video Production, Creative Writing, Dance, and Theater Production (set design, lighting design and costuming). ACT students have access to a pre-college academic boost, thanks to a partnership with Quinebaug Valley Community College and Eastern Connecticut State University that allows qualified upperclassmen to attend college classes and earn free college credits while attending ACT.
