This is the only place I visited twice during my visit to Charleston and both times I was not disappointed. This black-owned business was serving up some bomb a** food and the prices were great. My first visit I had the BBQ Ribs and Red rice $9.00 and the second visit was Fried fish, mac n cheese, and greens $10.50. Everything across both meals was very delicious and definitely recommend checking out this local eatery.
Had the fried pork chop, collards, cabbage and bread pudding for dessert. The best bread pudding I've ever tasted.
Sorry not sorry, I dont get the hype. I ordered the chicken tenders and mac and cheese... chicken was tough like it was re-fried and not fresh and it tasted like old grease that was also used to fry fish. Did not smell appetizing. Mac and cheese... meh. I did not finish my food. The "restaurant" is really messy and cluttered and distracted me so much the old man didnt give me my change. I would not go back. Not for me but it might be for someone else. I'll stick to soul food in Georgia. Have yet to find a place in South Carolina who knows what they are doing.
A humble mom and pop joint. No rest rooms, no ice, everything is served in to go box. Collard greens were way too sweet. The okra stew was great. The fried chicken is 5 small wings only. Folks were very friendly and pleasant. I will go back to support small black business.
Stopped for lunch while visiting the area. Great fish. Great collards. Very nice man behind counter. A little gem in Charleston.
In our quest to find a Soul Food restaurant beyond the fancy/famous places of the old town, we had the pleasure to enjoy East Side's no-frills yet authentically welcoming space, deeply flavored food and wonderful & personable people! Okra soup, red rice, fried chicken and wings...all delicious Recommended dishesOkra Soup, Fried Chicken Wings, Red Rice
In town visiting, this place had good reviews. I tried the BBQ ribs, collard greens, and Mac and cheese everything, too salty! Thought I was getting homemade cake, obviously store brought cupcake. Friend had the shrimp and yellow rice he complained his food was to salty as wellFood: 3/5
Delicious and tasty soul food, the BBQ ribs and fried fish were by far the best I’ve had in the area. The red rice is a must try as well! Would happily visit this area multiple times!
This place has the best BBQ ribs I've ever eaten. I've tried almost everything on the menu, and it's all delicious, but those ribs are out of this world. Collard Greens and Red Rice are my go-to sides
We wanted to try a local spot away from the tourist traps. This was a great find. Food was great and the staff knew many customers by name. We had fish and chicken with cabbage and Mac. Everything was great with southern flavors. Will visit again when in the area.Food: 5/5
