Ed Smith Stadium

Description

Ed Smith Stadium is a baseball field located in Sarasota, Florida. The stadium was built in 1989 to replace Payne Park as a Spring Training and Minor League Baseball site. In 2010, the Baltimore Orioles began playing spring games at the ballpark.HistoryEd Smith Stadium was formerly the spring home of the Chicago White Sox (1989–1997) and the Baltimore Orioles (1991). In 1998, it replaced Plant City Stadium as the spring training home of the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds remained at the facility through 2008. After Cincinnati's club moved its spring activities to Arizona, Ed Smith Stadium spent a year without major league Spring Training. The Orioles became the stadium's tenant and operator in 2010. Baltimore had trained in Sarasota before—at Twin Lakes Park in 1989 and 1990, as well as at Ed Smith in 1991—before moving to St. Petersburg and then Ft. Lauderdale for spring games. From 1989 to 2009, the stadium hosted a series of Minor League Baseball teams, the Single-A Sarasota White Sox, Sarasota Red Sox, and Sarasota Reds. From 2004 until 2009, it housed the Gulf Coast League's Gulf Coast Reds. Ed Smith has also hosted high school and college baseball tournaments.

First, I suggest buy the parking pass. Parking is very difficult in the area. Parking is $12. Stadium is a short walk from parking area. The stadium is beautiful and extremely clean. Lots of spots to purchase food and drinks. They do have a healthy option concession. Most options are as expected and expensive! You cannot bring food or drinks into the park. If going to a daytime game sit in the area by right field for shade. Section to the left of 212 are in sun all day.
Awesome stadium, everything was real convenient! Parking super easy and seats are close to the field. Lots of shade on 3rd base side to beat the heat. Stadium could use a new Jumbotron but everything else was great, even was easy to get out of parking lot after game.
Great day at the ball park today! Recommend seats in upper section 1st base side up 5 rows or more, it is shaded the whole time! The game was fun, not expensive, and we even enjoyed a hot dog!
You’ll be driving through Sarasota on a Sunny day, appreciating all the beautiful homes this lovely city has to offer when Ed Smith Stadium appears. It’s a very humble little stadium that fits right in with the surrounding area. Great architecture. On the inside, it’s Baltimore through and through, hon. Staff are friendly, fans are passionate and knowledge, and the Os don’t hit the ball too much. If you’re a baseball fan, and especially a Baltimore fan, you need to put this one on your list.
Very nice. Parking was extremely easy. Nice ball park. The video screen needs some TLC or an upgrade.
Great venue, but popcorn not fresh popped. Store type and $6.75 to boot. Sub sandwich , Boars head lacked flavor and bread could be fresher!! Great game and easy viewing. Nice park
It's ALWAYS a great day for a Spring Training baseball game! Sarasota, FL is the home of the Baltimore Orioles. Ed Smith Stadium is architecturally beautiful. All of the attendants working today were very friendly. In fact, they are the friendliest when compared to all of the other attendants in the numerous stadiums we've visited during Spring Training. What a joy, and so much fun!!! The only downside was the poor quality scoreboard; it was very difficult to read. Everyone sitting in our section was complaining about it.
Really enjoyed my first experience at this ballpark for the first day of the 2023 MLB spring training season.
Beautiful stadium! Not much of a crowd during summer FCL games, so it’s cool to hear the player chatter and have freedom to move around. Seems well maintained and designed.
We loved coming to some spring training games here! The park is very clean and the food and drinks were great. So many Baltimore Orioles logos!
