This is a library located on Sullivan's Island next to the lighthouse. The library has captured the essence of E.A. Poe, like an exhibit, as well as a library. This used to be fort back in the day, as you can see. Nice gound to walk around and get that homework done and head to the beach. Staff was excellent and very knowledgeable.
Very cool library that is uniquely located in renovated Battery Gadsden, a Spanish-American War four-gun battery. The library is named for author Edgar Allan Poe, who was stationed on Sullivan's Island as a private in the United States Army in 1827 and 1828, and who used the island setting as the background for his famous story, "The Gold Bug." They have wonderful books and kids programs along with handicap accessible parking and restrooms.
Such a cool library. What was once a battery for a fort is now a cozy library. Perfect ambiance to get the creative juices flowing or find a small nook to read in. Staff is very friendly and helpful in finding anything you need.
Beautiful little library, brilliant kids' section and welcoming staff
Kathy, was so knowledgeable and answered all our questions. She was so friendly and kind. If you go ask for her.
This library is so convenient for residents of SI and IOP. We use online holds, and items are delivered here for pickup. Staff is friendly and they are happy to assist visitors with their need for internet access . Some of the best public servants in Charleston County work for CCPL.
Great facility and staff! Thanks for a fun day.
I absolutely loved visiting this little library. I brought with me a discarded library book from my hometown's library. It is a paperback of some of Edgar Allan Poe's works. I'll add some pics here once I'm back from my trip.
Unconventional library on the outside. Looks like a bomb shelter. But kinda friendly and interesting on the inside.
