The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy serves as one of the nation's key centers for the theory and practice of planning and public policy scholarship and analysis. As part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, the school capitalizes on the strength and resources of this major research university. The Bloustein School reaches to the larger world beyond the realm of academia to contribute to the regional, national, and international communities.
The Bloustein School educates professionals in urban planning, public policy, and public health, and it houses an energetic applied research enterprise. Both the academic programs and the research groups have attained high national rankings and impact, especially in the areas of risk/environment/energy planning, transportation planning, community development, health policy, workforce development and social policy. The faculty and research staff are leaders in multi-disciplinary collaborations that often span units at Rutgers and beyond, and the administrative staff are exemplars of best practice in student services and business support. The Bloustein School seeks to improve our increasingly urbanized and interconnected world by exploring planning approaches and public policy solutions that are healthier, greener, fairer, and generate greater prosperity than do current practices. It pursues equitable and efficient solutions to public problems at multiple levels from the global to the local and emphasizes social engagement through the professional perspectives of urban planning, public policy, and public health.
The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy offers undergraduate, graduate, and dual-degree programs for students interested in public and private-sector careers, teaching and research, and at all levels of government and nonprofit organizations. The degree programs are organized into six major program areas: master's programs in public policy, urban planning, health administration, and public informatics; a doctoral program in planning and public policy; and undergraduate programs in planning and public policy, public policy, public health, urban planning and design, and health administration.
The Bloustein School has developed school-wide areas of expertise, or specialization. For example, the school has the most comprehensive set of methods courses of any planning and policy school because of its expertise in planning, policy, and health.
