Didn't know this place existed, but we went there to see live music and had a great time. Great people, kids running around having fun, the restrooms were spotless, and there is a cool little gift shop I need to go back to visit. Now we need to save up for an RV!! Great place!
Clean. Ample size camping sites. Boat ramp to the river. Fishing seems well. Fire pit worked great for cooking. Wood was readly available there. Little gift shop Restrooms: Very well kept up. Hot showers with great water pressure.
We had a nice stay here, right on the river. The man who runs it was very kind and helpful. The site was flat and had electric hookup which was nice. The view of the river and access to it were great! Our daughter loved being able to walk right down to the bank and play while we watched sitting by the fire. The bathrooms were pretty clean and decently stocked. There was a sink for washing dishes which was a nice surprise—though other campers seemed to have clogged it while we were there. They had live music and a shaved ice truck for Father’s Day—a really nice little event to top off a great weekend. A few things to note: There were several ant hills on our site—they didn’t bother us during our stay but it would give once of mind for those to be taken care of. No picnic table at our site and also the fire ring is stone with no grate for cooking. Also plan to get firewood on your way in. He sells it onsite but it was $14 + tax for about 20 pieces of wood. Additionally It seems like no one follows the rules to leash your dog. We had to pick up and carry our small leashed dog on any walk we took because of other people not following the rules. We also felt like we were babysitting other dogs telling them that their dog was swimming down the river. That’s obviously just the luck of who you end up camping beside, but the sites are close together, so you will definitely get to know your neighbors! The train is also very loud and does run several times a night. None of this would keep us from staying here again, but knowing it ahead will help us be more prepared next time! Also—only a 20 minute drive to cascade falls trail—highly recommend hiking it while you are in the area! Restrooms: Running water, real toilets, showers, sinks Dog-friendliness: Very dog friendly but some don’t follow rules to leash dogs
Fun little campground!!!! Located in a beautiful area with great view of the river. Dave was the nicest human I’ve probably ever met. If you hate trains don’t stay here but as a big train fanatic I quite enjoyed it.
Yes- the trains are loud. But the sites are just beautiful and the owners are lovely. There's a cute store with handmade items, the bathrooms are clean. We love this campground!
I used this campground as a base camp while I went on hikes over a long weekend, so with that said, i used this campground for sleeping and cooking. was only $20 a night which i thought was far. There were a number of RVs both temporary visitors and what seemed fairly permanent. There is a boat launch area, if you have kayaks. The place was fairly quiet at night. except for why i knocked this place 3 stars. There are train tracks right across the river and right behind the park. They would go by periodically through the night. I didn't have much of an issue, but if you are a light sleeper, this is not a campground for you. There were many young family's with children and dogs at this park. Their bath house was less than ideal. I ended up cleaning of in waterfalls from my hikes rather than using them. With all that being said. If you need a place to stay in the Blacksburg area for camping, this is a neat tucked away place right on the river that was able to suit my needs of a place to pinch a tent and cook food.
3.5 stars. Very nice location on a bend of the New River. On the opposite bank there are sheer cliffs that are beautiful. Campsites are on a little bluff above river, with short, steep paths down to the water. We put a canoe in there. Nice host Dave. Campsites are very close together, all in full sun. Only one other camper was there when we stayed October weekdays. Probably more crowded on weekends? Bathroom facility pretty dingy, but water nice and hot for showers. The trains? They come frequently on weekdays averaging one per hour, day and night, when we were there. They were loud, and woke us up at night, but if you like trains, you'll be happy! The trains come through a tunnel in the cliff and must blow their horns every time. It's sort of fun, but probably not if you're a light sleeper.
Cool place, tent camped on the river bank riding motorcycles. Trains coming by added to the experience. Super nice owners, cheap too. Only 6 min ride to town for food / gas / supplies. Definitely come back!
It's been a year since me and my family have been there I can't get a answer on the phone or facebook! It's very disappointing I would love to go back.
Pictures would make you pissed if you sunk in a muddy mess and than be told to call a tow truck at 200 to 250 to get out. Trying to dump tanks where he told me to. Thankfully a guy with a Chevy Silverado 1500 pulled me out.
