El Cortez Restaurant

This place had some pretty delicious food, on a late night tip, they close at 10 we didn't get there until about 915, but we still were able to have a couple drinks and order some food, which was cooked quick but didn't lose any flavor. Small guacamole was just over thimble size. Food was delivered 1 item at a time with waiting in between. First fajita filling then waiting for tortillas as it cools, then the beans, then the rice arriving barely warm. Then plates finally came. Everything was excessively salty. This place had been a family favorite. I will not be racing back

Had the shrimp quesadilla appetizer, the chef special plate, and the enchiladas Verde!!!! All of the food was good especially for the price!! Margarita special $12 for a pitcher really good also!!! Irene was our waitress and she was phenomenal!!!! Definitely recommend and definitely going back!! Salsa is lacking cilantro but not bad.

I always get the tilapia a la vizcaina grilled because it’s tasty. It comes with a little spicy soup that’s tasty and hot.Food: 4/5

The service was trash here. We did get any water to start with, which I always thought was standard. The long island tasted like actually tea. The servicer was horrible. She kept forgetting items that I ordered. I asked for napkin, several times I just went and got them myself. To make matters worse, this restaurant charges a processing fee if you use your card. It's safe to say I will not be back.

The Chips and Salsa were delicious. I got the 3 taco dinner. I loved the beans and rice. The steak tacos are great! No fat, tender and favored. The green sauce was my favorite!!! The patio is super cute and relaxing.

So let me start by saying i used to come here 20+ years ago regularly with my family the bar area had a glass roof and they had a huge mural on the kitchen wall which is now gone. It was awesome back then! It's been a while since I've been here and i can say they have fallen off a bit. Not saying it's bad, but it's not the caliber they used to be. The steak in my burrito was just gray, no charred tidbits, our chips weren't hot and fresh like they used to be. The suizo burrito cheese wasn't the same either, it used to stretch and stringmine was lukewarm so might have been the issue. The bistec ala mexicana suizo was still very good though. Also side note they put lettuce and tomato in normal burritos now, i got mine with no lettuce and still ended up with a huge pile of tomatoes which kinda sucked. This location is still way better than mokena, and its still decent food. My review is just harsh because i have seen the restaurant at its peak and it was one of the best around, It's a shame it has fallen a bit. Good luck guys, I hope you continue to thrive.
