El Fenix Mexican Restaurant
"Very few restaurants have the staying power to celebrate even a quarter-century of service, but El Fenix celebrated their Centennial! Founded in 1918, by Mike Martinez, a Mexican immigrant, El Fenix is credited as “The Originator of Tex-Mex Cuisine.” It has been named an “All American Icon” by Nation’s Restaurant News and a must-see dining destination for visitors to North Texas. Acquired by Local Favorite Restaurants™ in 2008, El Fenix was refurbished with freshened interiors and a revamped menu, while maintaining its signature authentic elements."

Not great if you’re looking for more authentic Mexican food, but the best place in town for chicken tortilla soup. Their soup is full of flavor! Unfortunately, they are very stingy with the broth which is fine if you dine in and can request extra broth, but is not the case if you order takeout like I do. They don’t give nearly enough soup to cover all the goodness and it ends up being more like wet tortilla strips rather than a soup. This was not a one time thing either, I have the same issue every time I order this whether for dine in or carry out. This expensive $12 large soup plate is a small portion, almost more of an appetizer. I would have given 5 stars if the portion was bigger and the proportions of the broth to contents were more even.
I had the crazy nachos & if you're a lover of nachos, you will absolutely love these! The service was great! My friends & I were seated instantly & attended to throughout our dinner; just enough to be helpful, but not bothersome & the atmosphere was clean & comfortable. We all had something different at my table, but we all enjoyed our dishes & even the presentation of the food on your plates, makes you want to dig right in. You will definitely enjoy dining here.
the service is fast fast fast. The food is good, a little higher priced then most mexican style restaurants, but worth it. driving-wise entrance into and out of the restaurant is a nightmare, sharp turn off of 287 or turn here, turn here, turn here, off of 77, behind tractor supply parking is ample but spaces are tight.
This is our weekly date night place to go. Marco our waiter makes it exceptionally good. He gives great service and is on top of everything. He is the reason we keep going back. Treats us like royalty.Food: 5/5
Been awhile since I have ate here, still as good as I remember. Loved the brisket enchiladas. I've sort of made this my go to lunch place on Tuesday. Their lunch menu is top-notch and VERY GOOD. I like the single bean and guacamole chalupa with one sour cream chicken enchilada w/ beans and rice. Have to mention the award winning chips and salsa that come with every meal also.
Very yummy food!! Very friendly staff and good customer service! We’re in town for a weekend trip and decided to stop for dinner and glad we did! First image is the combination fajita salad, second image is seasoned chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce, and third image is chicken street tacos.
Consistently Delicious.. Im a loyal customerFood: 5/5
There was enough of my lunch portion to save for dinner, but I ate everything. I cannot remember the last time I had Mexican food this good. Our server was courteous and attentive. From sitting down to receiving our order maybe took 10-15 minutes--and it was my first time there.
I came to this location on Saturday April 29,2023. I am very familiar with this location and typically visit here frequently. I decided to meet an out of town friend here . Our server was Rosa L. Within 5 minutes of being seated I felt it was rushed to order . The server brought our tab 15 minutes into eating without considering we may have wanted to order another drink or something from the menu . We did stay at the establishment for a couple to a few hours . The server NEVER came back to offer us anything to drink or see if we needed anything or to even collect the tab and payment . I get that you want people in and out but when you’ve also spent your money there you should not be rushed and the server should not ghost the table and honestly the customer service could be better . The food was good but refried beans seems dry this time !
Nancy is the best with an awesome personality. Chips and salsa were great. Margaritas hit the spot. Bravo. Four stars bc our first server was a young woman who didn't give her name and her attitude was horrible and too much scowling. Very unpleasant, so we were thrilled when Nancy took over and went above and beyond. My bean nachos weren't what I expected, so they rapidly let me order something else and I was craving the grilled chicken sandwich and it came with perfect crispy bacon and pico and Monterey jack cheese. It was delicious! The french fries were just ok. The other person in my party raved about her tamales and enchiladas and refried beans. The sopapillas we're super hot and absolutely fresh and perfect, especially with honey on top. Definitely my favorite for the area, especially because nearby places like Taco Cabana are lousy. El Fenix deserves their great reputation. Will definitely return soon for more margaritas and ask for Nancy's section.
