Not good at all. Went for a friends birthday. Six of us in total. Food was bland and staff was unfriendly except for one waitress who was friendly. We ordered a round of drinks, 5 came right out the the 6th waited 10 minutes. Also we ordered a glass of wine later and after 30 minutes had to ask again. When asking for more chips you would have to ask 2 or 3 times before they would bring them. Best part of the meal was desserts. They were good but honestly that was it. Doubt I would go back
I have been dining at El Mariachi for over 20 years. During that period, I've sampled most of what is on the menu and rarely have I been disappointed. They have the best Mexican food in western Nassau County hands down! The prices are very reasonable, with good-sized portions; Mariachi players on the weekend and they're even open for lunch. I've taken out-of-town family here and they've always raved about the food. Pleasant atmosphere. Helpful staff. And I'm told I don't drink that their beverages are very good. The negative reviews might be from some Tex-Mex rivals in the area. Twenty plus years in business speaks for itself!
Was there this past weekend and was extremely disappointed. Our waiter didn't take our drink order and I had to call it our across the room.. He never came over to our table to check on us. I ordered mole Verde and it was so dry I couldn't eat it.I took 3 bites and called the waitress over to tell her it was so dry. She looked at me and said really? I told her I can't even eat it. No one came over to the table after that, No one followed up and I was charged for my plate. The waiter brought the bill while the rest of my family was still eating and took the money while they were eating. I finally said to waiter while the family was still eating "I don't think you need our table do you?" and he just laughed and said "no, enjoy" I didn't let them finish, I was so disgusted and we walked out. Horrible service, the place is old and Dusty and needs a refurbishment with new management. Nothing had chAnged in 20 years and it's not a good thing in this case. Call in a cleaning service to dust! At the least!
DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!! in town from Wisconsin, staying at a near by hotel, after a long day of walking all around New York we decided to have dinner here worst decision ever!!!! went into the place, got the menus and right away i noticed that the food is over priced for a Mexican restaurant... it took about 10 mins for someone to come greet us and take our drink order... i ordered a horchata and i was told that they didn't have horchata Really? a Mexican restaurant without horchata? i asked for a sprite and after i got it i asked for a refill and i was told that i would get charged for a full drink no free refills... i saw the menu and after going through it twice i asked how the Camarones con Arroz was cooked... server looked at me like if i was form another planet and explain to me that he was only in charge of bringing the food out and not cooking it nor knowing how it was cooked anyways i decided to go with the shrimp chicken and steak fajitas... my wife ordered a quesadilla as well as my mother in law... chicken was sooooooo bad and tasteless it seemed like i was bitting on the chicken itself!!!! over all all the food was flat and not good at all and my flour tortillas were cold! we ate just because we were super hungry from all the walking and to top it off we asked for the check to be split into 3 equal parts three families came and was told that the check could only be split in half per table and i asked why and i got a rudely "its policy".... thanks for ruining our last dinner in the New York area El Mariachi... the only reason i would go back there it would be to hold a sign at the door asking people to not eat there...
I hadn't been there in a few years but the same family is still there and the food was fabulous. It was like visiting family. I have only been there during the quieter times of the day but it is perfect for a quiet lunch. I am told it really swings on the weekends.
Don't know what's going on with some of these negative reviews. El Mariachi is probably the best mexican food in the area. Great vibe, live music, and food that makes you feel like you're right on the border! 5 stars!
I enjoyed the Mexican food, but it was not nearly the best mexican food I've head in NYC. I ordered the burrito grande and thought it would be more food. To be honest a Chipotle burrito might have tasted better. They give you chips and salsa while you're waiting, which is nice. Our table also got a pitcher of Sangria. It tasted pretty good for the money I suppose. I've definitely had better in the city. Overall it's a good restaurant for some decent Mexican food, but if you want to have a nicer experience with some better food, go somewhere else.
#9 Taco plate. Consistently delicious for over 20 years. The flan is amazing. Family run. Very nice people. Great margaritas.
We are very sorry to hear that El Mariachi is closing. This was our favorite restaurant in Long Island and my wife and I used to go there every Friday night for 20 years. We hope that the Salazar family will open up a new restaurant in another location in the RVC area. The food and drinks are just too good to let go.
Authentic Mexican cuisine in a clearlybfamily owned place. The wait staff are welcoming, accommodating and very friendly. Two must haves are the mole poblano and the flan de casa
