I have been eating here for over 17 years. Not once have I ever had a bad meal here. The staff is always fast and polite. The food is top notch and authentic. And the place feels very much like a hometown Mexican restaurant. I have lived all over Texas and despite all the authentic Mexican restaurants and food trucks that litter the Lone Star State, I still prefer El Metate in Tennessee.

Ok.....for those of you who carry a firearm legally, you are not welcome here. He has a sign in the window telling you such. Food was good, but as a legal gun owner, I will never eat here again.  I encourage all second amendment advocates to eat somewhere else.  See the attached picture.Food: 5/5

This is my favorite local Mexican restaurant. The service is fast and the food is always hot and comes out quickly. My two kids love the cheese dip. My husband is more adventurous and has maybe 10-15 dishes he rotates between a few with shrimp and he loves them. I stick with fajitas, sometimes tacos and enchiladas, or pollo con queso their version of a pollo loco at other Mexican restaurants. The manager or owner I’m assuming is usually walking around and he always asks how everything is. We always leave happy!

It’s been a while but I saw a young mother in this restaurant with two young kids. They were being a bit rowdy as kids do but were within reason. I watched this mother tend to her children while trying to sneak a bite in between playing with them. In the end she had one fall asleep on her lap with the other one leaned onto her other shoulder and somehow still ably feeding her child and herself. She just really looked like a kind, patient mother. I told my waiter I would pick up her tab and to please not say anything to her. Well, it must have literally gotten lost in translation because before I knew it I had a teary-eyed mother standing in front of me thanking me for what I’d done. I told her I think she just looked like a really good mother and she replied that sometimes it doesn’t seem that way. Either way I think she really needed to hear that so maybe she was meant to know where it came from. Mothers, always remember you are the most important thing in your child’s life. You always deserve more credit than what you get, and you collectively play a major role in shaping the future. Sorry about the review not really describing the restaurant….but it is good food. If you ever have the means to do something like this please do. It really will make a person’s day and yours as well.

I recently had the pleasure of dining there with a few friends, and we all had a wonderful experience.  The service was also excellent. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, and he made sure that we had everything we needed.  Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at El Metate. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal.

With as many times as I’ve been here, I have always had an identical experience. Fast service, friendly staff, and great Mexican food, and one of the only places that’s still affordable to eat out at. Highly recommend!!Food: 5/5

Just passing through and thought we'd stop, had the Hawaiian Burrito, it was amazing, huge, and had a bit of everything.  Salsa was up there with quite a few of those I have back home.  Service was super fast and friendly.Food: 5/5

El Metate has very yummy burritos, the Burrito California is big! Very filling. Their caso is good too. It's not too watery, I see a lot of Mexican restaurants lately watering down their queso. It's very creamy, and their chips taste fresh and their salsa isn't too spicy, it's perfect! Sometimes when I go I get a quesadilla with shredded chicken. The workers are very nice and keep our drinks topped up. Parking can be a hassle, as that little plaza is very busy between El Metate and the businesses around it. A few times we've had to park in the walmart parking lot and walk over to El Metate. Not a big deal, although there was not a single handicap space available due to them all being taken. So be mindful of that if you go during busier times.  Parking: Free parking, though during busier times may need to park in the walmart parking lot right next to El Metate.
