One of several decent bakeries in Bay City, Elaine's Bake Shop has the best location right on Euclid. The smell of baked goods sets the mood when entering and there are piles of already bought items waiting for pickup. The counter is well stocked with a variety of donuts, cookies and other pastries. They have a very good old fashioned sour creme donut my favorite that I usually get. After many trips here, the only complaint I can think is service related. The people behind the counter are not very forthcoming or outgoing -- an affable and knowledgeable staff goes a long way. If asked about the flavor/type of an item, I'd expect more than a one word answer.
Got four doughnuts. My husband had his, my one year old was working on hers, and I pregnant lady here had a couple of bites when I realized my doughnut had green fuzzy MOLD on it. I was so disgusted and took my daughter’s away. Took them back and the worker was very apologetic and wanted to fix it but the owner apparently did not think it was a big deal and only wanted to refund me the moldy doughnut. Seriously? Gross! All the doughnuts were in the bag together and there’s no way we would eat any of them. So disgusted and awful handling of the situation on owners part.
My roommates at SVSU and I are use to being surrounded by local bakeries at home and have really missed it while going to college. So now from time to time we'll go to Elaine's for doughnuts and have really enjoyed them. Some of my personal favorites are the fruity pebbles one, the orea one, and the custard one. However, they never last very long in our dorm and i haven't had a bad one yet. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the quality and i would just like to remind everyone that the lady that we always see at the front desk and have always gotten good service from doesn't bake the doughnuts so you can be mad at her if you want but it's not her fault. Also it's not cops and doughnuts so chill. Also someone thought the doughnuts were expensive, but even as broke college students we can afford to splurge from time to time and I've always thought that the pricing was fair. We also tried the cookies once and we weren't really fans but we go for the doughnuts anyway so it is what it is.
Excellent pastries! Friendly service. Support local small businesses.
VERY disappointed in the smudged cookies I received today. Not only were they smudged and messy they were not what I requested two weeks ago when I ordered them for my baby shower! I was told we could return them and receive a refund.... What good does that do me when my baby shower is over an hour away tomorrow afternoon?! I wish I could post a picture. I could have ordered from Wal-Mart and probably gotten a better looking cookie for a better price too. Did I mention how I live two blocks from the Patisserie in Saginaw but still chose to drive to bay city because I've heard so many good things!? I think offended would be a better word for how I am feeling... Offended they would even think these were acceptable to be sent home with a customer.
WARNING!!! Elaine is a horrible person and a liar, she is part of a scam on an elderly woman who sent her money to her bank account and she stole that woman’s money, $30k when I tried to contact her she promised that she will return the money to my mother but it was all a lie. I would never in my life give this woman any business PEOPLE BE WARE!!! I have a feeling that she is part of a scam ring and we filed a police report on her.
I've worked here and quit and still have not received my final pay and it's been almost a month lol. They drop donuts on the ground and put them back on the trays. Family owned business full of crooks. I've seen the baker next to me drop a full tray and put them back on the tray. Highly suggest a better donut shop
Purchased 1 dozen this morning. All the fritters 8 was way way undercooked. A couple of the cherry fritters was almost a wet dough still . I called and the response was almost non existent. I am the one who had to suggest up bringing them back. The quality has been slowly going down . What a pitty. I wish I could post a pic of them, I would bet alot of people would not go back. There is no way that I am the only one that had this problem .
Our first experience at Elaine’s. Prices are high and the worker chose to bad mouth a local bakery which we love. We will not be returning.
Little pricey, but good. You have to try the "Squealer". It is a like a cinnamon bun with 3 strips of candied bacon on top. Yum!
