Elawa Farm

About

A Community of natural splendor and historical significance

Description

ELAWA FARM is a public-private partnership dedicated to the preservation and stewardship of a unique combination of natural setting, designed landscapes and buildings of architectural and historic significance.

In 1998, the Cityof Lake Forest acquired a 16-acre parcel of land, including the original farm complex buildings that were part of an early 20th century gentleman's farm, known as ELAWA FARM. Adjacent to ecologically significant Middlefork Savana, this purchase created an opportunity for a unique partnership of public and private organizations to collaborate in the preservation and use of this property.
Today, Elawa Farm is managed by the Elawa Farm Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)3. The Middlefork Savana is part of Lake County Forest Preserve.

Mission

Elawa Farm, a restored gentleman’s farm and garden, enriches our community as a unique center for hands-on learning and inspires an appreciation for gardening, healthy living and historic preservation.

The Elawa team was so fantastic to work with for our wedding! Karen was so accommodating to us and our guests, and they really put a lot of thought and care into making sure our wedding went off without a hitch! From planning out how to use the facilities, to coordinating with vendors, we were blown away with how organized and beautiful the space ended up turning out. The farm itself is really an incredible place, and we couldn’t be happier to have gotten married there. It is such a beautiful backdrop and would be an ideal place for really any event.
We are a flower shop called The Jade Vine and clients of our had their wedding at Elawa Farm recently. The farm staff was incredibly responsive, proactive, and made the wedding seamless. We worked very closely with Karen, the venue coordinator, and Vivian, the onsite attendant who helped make the day perfectly successful. It was very convenient to have each aspect of the day all in one place; people flowed easily from ceremony, to cocktail hour, to dinner under a large tent, to dancing in the haybarn. Would highly recommend this venue for weddings or events of any kind.
Beautiful but amateurish operation. Loved the Xmas sale and the gin class my wife and I took, but the Farmers Market was a gabfeat for the staff and their friends, no help, few prices. About to buy Lions Mane mushrooms, I was applauded to see a staff member and her buddy open every box and touch each one! Who want’s to deal with that, who where have those hands been? Didn’t buy a thing and won’t be backexcept for the Xmas market.
Charming, quiet, and romantic gardens are so inviting. Farmers market has delicious and fresh offerings every Friday during season. Simply don’t miss out on starting your weekend right.
While trying to find the parking lot for Middlefork Savanna GPS took me to Halas Hall, I found this little gem. Loved reading about this history of this farm and walking around the property. Great place to take kids before or after a nature walk. I would love to come back for the farmers market one day.
Excellent place to spend time with family, Kids love this place. staff members are willing to take time and talk to kids about the animals and their dietary habits.
Elawa Farm is truly one of the Northshore's hidden gems. We love visiting the farmer's market Friday and Saturday mornings. Gaby, the market coordinator, and her team are always so welcoming and upbeat. Cannot recommend this place enough!
Stopped in to the market and thought it was really nice!
Good to walk around on a beautiful day. Unfortunately, everything was closed due to maintenance, but the trails were kept up well and very clean. Informative signage and maps help identify the wildlife and different areas of the trail. Great for a disconnect from the busyness.
This is a unique gem that elevated our trip to Lake Forest from an errand to something special. The building and grounds are interesting and the wildlife displays are fascinating. I felt sorry for the sad-looking, one-eyed owl and neurotic lynx that was pacing frantically back and forth - those were the only two creatures outside the day we visited. The inside reptile displays were very cool and the young women volunteering that day were super friendly and informative. We would definitely pay this wonderful farm another visit if we're in the vicinity!
