EGACE’s mission is to provide adults with dynamic programs that lead to economic independence and personal growth.
EGACE offers a variety of courses designed to provide life-long learning opportunities. We offer high school diploma, GED prep, English as a second language, citizenship prep, career technical education, and many community interest classes. Also, we host the South County Career Center and a variety of workforce development services.
EGACE provides adults with dynamic programs that lead to economic independence and personal growth.

• Transition to postsecondary education, training, and/or a career;
• Connect and contribute to family, school, workplace, and the larger
community.
ADULT BASIC AND SECONDARY EDUCATION (ABE/ASE) CLASSES
EGACE offers a range of options for adult students to fulfill the requirements for a high school diploma or the General Education Development (GED) certificate, pass the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE), or improve basic skills in English and math. Adult Basic and Adult Secondary Education (ABE/ASE) students benefit from access to career technical education and workforce development partnerships with such agencies as Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA), Department of Human Assistance (DHA), Department of Rehabilitation (DOR), Bach Viet Association, and CalGRIP (California Gang Reduction, Intervention, Prevention program, Employment Development Department (EDD), and EGUSD Foster Youth.
Adult Basic Education (ABE) provides students opportunities to improve basic skills and prepare for the ASE program, in which they can earn a high school diploma or GED. EGACE offers classes in basic English language arts and math through teacher-directed instruction and a computer-assisted, self-paced blended learning environment. Community members seeking to pass the EGUSD No Child Left Behind paraeducator test in reading and/or math also may enroll in ABE to improve their basic skills.
The Adult Secondary Education (ASE) program offers instruction in all subjects required for a high school diploma or a GED certificate in computer-based day and evening classes. Students work in self-paced, small-group, and whole-group settings. Instructional options include:
• High School Diploma (HSD), including credit-retrieval for high school seniors who are credit-deficient by 10 or fewer credits
• Independent Study (IS)
• General Education Development (GED) test preparation
• California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) test preparation
ABE and ASE students also can take advantage of EGACE’s Learning Center, staffed by a veteran certificated teacher and an experienced paraeducator, to extend their learning.
ALWAYS LEARNING (COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND TESTING SERVICES)
Always Learning provides the community ongoing opportunities for learning in a wide variety of subject areas such as computer technology, world languages, financial management, photography, home-based businesses. These not-for-credit classes are short-term, offered mostly in the evenings and on weekends, and include certificates of completion if applicable. Within the sphere of Always Learning is EGACE’s Older Adults program which promotes skill development and life-long learning classes to improve or sustain health, wellness, mental acuity, independence, and quality of life through courses offered at the Senior Center of Elk Grove (SCEG). Always Learning also offers testing services, including the No Child Left Behind (NCLB)/Paraeducator exam, custodial and typing proficiency tests, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam, and GED testing.
CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE)
The CTE program provides industry-linked classes and services that enable students to reach their career goals in order to enhance the quality of their lives and contribute to the health of California’s economy. All CTE classes are offered in a hands-on classroom environment leading to certificates of completion that indicate competencies completed within the program. Some CTE courses also prepare students for state or national certification or licensure. Also available to CTE students is the Learning Center, a computer-focused environment with an instructor acting in an advisory capacity to assist students achieve course competencies. EGACE CTE training programs include:
• Administrative Assistant program leads to Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification,
• Medical Office Assistant, leading to CCA or CCP certificates,
• Pharmacy Technician,
• Veterinarian Assistant,
• Phlebotomy Technician.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
EGACE’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program provides adult students with an opportunity to learn English in order to integrate into American society and be productive in the workplace, school, family life and the community. Instruction is customized to meet the civic education, family communication and workforce readiness of students. Classes are offered during the day and evening, with single-level classes at the main campus and multi-level classes at community sites. A citizenship preparation class is held on Saturday. Distance Learning (DL) is available to ESL students through DVD checkout and an online course with teachers available to work with students both on campus and in the community.
ESL/Citizenship
Citizenship instruction is offered via two different settings at EGACE. Students can attend an in-person class on Saturday mornings or check out DVDs from the Distance Learning program. The on-campus course offers English language instruction to prepare students for the US citizenship test. The DL course provides materials at the literacy, intermediate low, and intermediate high levels. The objectives of both courses include completion of the N-400 form, US history and government, California and local history, geography and government and USCIS interview questions.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Sacramento Works South County Career Center — The South County Career Center (SCCC) provides job seekers with a variety of services to fit their needs. Staff at South County can help you develop your job search skills and find a new career. Attend one of our many job search workshops such as interview and resume critiquing, skills assessment and employer recruitment events that are available to the public monthly.
South County Youth Works — South County Youth Works (SCYW) provides two types of services: outreach and orientation to the career center and intensive services for out-of-school. Both programs are funded through WIA I grants from SETA. The Universal Services program benefits youth ages 16-21 by providing pre-employment workshops and job leads.
The Intensive Services program benefits out-of-school, economically disadvantaged youth, ages 18-21, by providing support in attaining a high school diploma or GED, occupational skills assessment and training, assessment of employability skills, paid work experience, enrollment into college, case management, and follow-up services. Most of the eligible youth also are enrolled in EGACE’s ABE/ASE programs. Youth Works offers career development workshops and youth leadership activities.
