The management has made a good effort to keep the cemetery cut and landscaping done .
In the last 2 year this place has went down hill fast. So many dead trees, and beds and uncut grass that was never seen before. This management company needs to be terminated
My dear Domestic Partner of 55 years, Richard Wooden, expired last week. Hospice contacted Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham AL where his parents and one brother are entombed in a Mausoleum. A very nice couple came to our house and transported him to Elmwood. They appeared to be thoughtful, courteous and caring. Later that day a super nice lady Lynn called me and reported they’d received his body and asked me to come the next day to plan the arrangements and bring his apparel. Upon arrival I explained to Lynn he had requested that I plan a simple ceremony with few relatives and friends as I have for myself. Since we both are elderly and our health conditions are limited we had agreed it would be best. Thank everyone for making it easier. The gentleman “Don” I talked to numerous times while Richard was on Hospice for 14 months was thoughtful, courteous and convinced me we would be pleased. I was very pleased! Harold
I had written a story about my Birmingham family which dates back to 1910 on a Birmingham History Group page. I mentioned I had trouble finding my great grandfathers grave at Elmwood. I was amazed when Missy from Elmwood added the exact location of my great grandfathers grave to the post. Missy had researched cemetery records extensively, identified an error in records and found his grave. Every once in a while you find a wonderful person who cares enough to put the time in to help. Missy is that wonderful person and our family is so grateful.
Drove from out of town to visit graves of family. Arrived late but was allowed in the gates thanks to security person Reginald Wood. Since it was the night before Mother's day, he allowed us to stay a few precious minutes. He was so courteous, friendly and understanding. Thank you Reginald!
Planning a funeral can be very difficult, especially for your parent. Ira at Elmwood Cemetery was expedient and thorough, and impressed me and my sister with his friendly and compassionate demeanor. I did not expect to be treated as a valued friend, and appreciated his kindness with these tough decisions.
Ira Lucas assisted our family when my father passed away in 2016 and just this week when my mom passed away. My sister, brother and I are so grateful to Ira for his kindness, sensitivity and professionalism in directing our parents’ funerals. He certainly made two of the most difficult days in our lives much easier to get through. Thank you so much Ira. We also want to thank the wonderful staff for all their kindness. I was very disappointed to see the grounds and the huge number of fire antbeds on 9/8/21. This is the worst I have ever seen the grounds in 23 years. We have seven plots at Elmwood and ,I wonder if staffing shortage is an issue. I will follow up with the office this week.
It's never easy saying goodbye to a love one especially your father so sudden as we did. Thank you Ira and Scott for making dad's final arrangements as easy as possible under the circumstances. The Phillips Family
Family has a plot here. Both services for my grandparents were done respectfully and with care. Also went through the funeral home for my father and they did a great job.
