My friends and I chose the Embassy Suites on Meeting St. due to the location. It’s very walkable to many tourist attractions, and there is a Dash pickup nearby. The building is charming inside and out. It would benefit from a few updates. For example, the hotel rooms should have some more hooks, particularly in the bathroom, to hang towels and wet swimsuits. The AC was way too cold and we were told to turn it down, but there was no change. Then we were told we could try turning it off, so that’s what we did. It was then too warm. So we basically went between ice cold and uncomfortably warm. Housekeeping is VERY responsive and happily brought extra blankets, towels, tea bags, etc. The staff overall deserves a shoutout for going above and beyond. The on site breakfast was phenomenal, and they have an afternoon reception with 2 free drinks every night. If they got some updates to the rooms, I think I’d stay again. Overall happy with our experience.
While the whole hotel needs updating new carpets, tubs, toilets, tiles, wallpaper, the price for this location makes it worthwhile. EVERYTHING in the historic district is in walking distance. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The free happy hour was nice with indoor and outdoor space. The breakfast, while not the greatest, had an extensive selection of hot items usually not offered for complimentary fare pancakes, biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, along with cereals/yogurt. There are some nice small touches luxury bedding, clock displays time on two sides so more visible. Fold-out couch in living area if you have a guest. Would stay again given these factors. Parking is a lot extra, but the valets are very accommodating. Nearby activities: Restaurants, shops, and tourist activities no matter which direction you walk. Walkability: Historic district is walkable.
The staff was amazing and went out of their way make us feel welcomed as if we were the only guests. Enjoyed the breakfast and the happy hour. The power went out in the whole area one night due to storms, but the hotel provided snacks and beverages and the air stayed cool too. The only thing is that the rooms could be updated a bit more.
Everything was nice and convenient. The staff was great. I checked in through the app because I had a really late arrival, around 11:30pm so having the digital room key was cool; just walked right in & went straight to my room. The complimentary breakfast was pretty good & they made omelettes on the spot. The room was clean & had fresh towels just about right away upon request. It’s in a great location because you’re in the middle of everything so a lot was walkable. Nearby activities: A park is right next door & they have a street market setup every Saturday. There are also plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars along King street which is just a block over. Walkability: The hotel is a block away from King street, where a lot of entertainment is with food and drinks
The rooms and furniture are very DATED. This hotel needs some serious upgrades and they haven't done so since they first opened in 1990's. The giveaway was the booger green carpet in the rooms. The hotel is quiet and in a great location. The best part was the complimentary reception from 5-7pm where you can drink for free. I would NOT stay here again. I've never stayed at an Embassy like this before. I've stayed at nicer Best Western Hotels. The only reason we did not pack up and leave is because we paid via 3rd party and would've lost all our money if we left. SWIPE LEFT and pick somewhere else to stay. Rooms: Horrible. Dated & stained furniture. Green carpet. Great air conditioning Walkability: Great restaurants, bars, and shopping nearby
Located right in the heart of it all, close to King St. Several restaurants are within half a block of the hotel with several others less than 3 blocks away. The service is great. There is a complimentary drink and snacks in the main lobby every night from 5-7. The free made-to-order breakfast is good enough to keep you from going out and spending extra money for breakfast. I really enjoyed the layout of the hotel with the large central courtyard and the rooms looking down into the center. Out front of the hotel is Magnolia Square which is a nice place for a walk. CARTS bus service is about a block away which provides free transportation to most places of interest thus saving money on gas or Uber. Would definitely recommend it as a home base if in town for a business trip or even for a home base for a family vacation. Rooms: Nice rooms with no windows in the sleeping area lend to a good night of sleep. Nearby activities: Close to several nice restaurants. King St. is one block away. Walkability: Lots of shops and things to do within a half mile distance. Food & drinks: Free snacks and drinks every evening. Free custom made breakfast every morning. Noteworthy details: Historic location in old Citadel. Indoor courtyard with fountain.
Stayed here for the first half of my trip. The location is perfect. All the restaurants, tourism, and shops are within walking distance. The staff at this location was friendly and informative. They have a courtesy happy hour everyday from 5:30pm to 7:30. The drinks are basic drinks but this is a thoughtful gesture from the hotel. They also have a complimentary breakfast. This building is a couple hundred years old. With that being said … our room smelled a little muggy. Also, our AC wasn’t very strong and that’s not good thing during summer.
Read the reviews before booking this Hilton property. I made the mistake of booking without reading the reviews due to the fact that I trust the Hilton name. This property is outdated and tired. Our rooms we had to change due to the smell and dampness were musty, damp, and had stains on the carpets, rust stains in the bathroom tub, and torn furniture. We asked to change rooms and the second room was just as bad. The front desk staff was helpful in getting us into a new room without a problem. This property is falls way below the Hilton standard. The location is the best part of this hotel, but not worth sacrificing cleanliness. If you suffer from allergies, this is not the place to rest your head. Definitely not worth the price.
Thank you to the amazing staff here. From the moment we walked in everyone was greeting us. They checked if we needed help. We didn't know where to park and the valet employees helped us without hesitations. Even after we checked in with the Manager on Duty it was all smiles from every employee. They suggested places to eat and shop. The next morning we were heading to breakfast and the staff was so nice and entertaining. They were making us laugh. We enjoyed our stay here. We can't wait until we bring our kids to experience Charleston. We are definitely booking here again.
The Embassy Suites in downtown Charleston, SC was probably the friendliest, most accommodating staff that I recall from any hotel that I've stayed anywhere in the country over the last few decades!!! Kudos to their parking attendants, front desk crew, breakfast staff, and maintenance/housekeeping staff. I would not even consider another hotel when visiting the Charleston area!
