The Emerald Isle Police Department is comprised of 33 sworn officers and 5 non-sworn civilian employees who serve a year round population of approximately 3800 residents, and an estimated summer population of 45,000 to 60,000 people living and vacationing within a 5.2 square mile area in coastal North Carolina. The department answers an average of about 12,000 calls for service a year and provides a full range of professional law enforcement services that include patrol, traffic control and enforcement, investigations, public education programs, and community outreach programs and services.
