Unreliable leasing office with zero customer service. Very bad experience. I had an apartment tour scheduled at 5PM but no instruction was provided upon arrival. I called the service line they provided in the appointment confirmation email, and the agent helped me transferred to the leasing office - 20 minutes wait, no one answered. The agent told me they were not reachable. So I should just wait outside myself for half an hour? Nobody called back during my scheduled time and at the end I was not able to get a tour of the apartment. Please show some respect to others time and be professional.
A voice of sanity here y'all: I see a lot of salty comments as these pages tend to get, but I feel like some of them are simply not accurate. I lived here for a year and let me try to give you a fair, balanced review: Pros - Decent value: It's not Avalon nice, but it's pretty nice feeling you get in the Emme buildings and units. Parking $ is very reasonable as well. - Safe, clean neighborhood in the East Bay: This was the biggest deciding factor for me. There are homeless camping sites near the highway exit, but for some reason they never come near the residential areas. Walking your dog at late in the evening feels safe. - Amenities: Gym is small but it's there. Common areas are nice. Rooftop terrace is excellent. Not exclusive to Emme, but having Christie park right next to it is a huge plus. Cons other people say that I'd like to argue - Leasing office/Residential service: Yea they work at a limited capacity since covid, but you can rely on the team. The system they have in place works pretty well and your problems will get addressed in a responsive manner. - Nearby train tracks: This was the biggest concern when I was considering moving in. I consider myself to be fairly sensitive, but after living here for a year, my verdict is that the train noise issue is a non-issue. Sure it depends on what ticks you off and it's all about your tolerance level, but the noise isn't that crazy really. Cons for real - Packages: I don't know why they can't just set up some cameras around the mail room. So many packages getting lost. Like I almost expect every 1 out of 3 packages I receive to be stolen. It feels like a simple enough of an issue to solve, but none has improved during my tenancy. Hopefully this problem is only temporary. - Fire alarms: Not a deal breaker, but boy these fire alarms are loud. It's probably made to a some sort of industry standard, but still...there are 3-4 alarms at each unit and across the hallways and when one goes off, every alarm will go off until god knows when they'll all turn off. Frequency is irregular so I won't comment. Final thoughts: Very strong Pros and somewhat bearable Cons. I'd recommend living at Emme to anyone.
Used to be great. There are cameras set up in the mail room, but that doesn't seem to stop the packages from being stolen. The front locks changed and they added a fob entry and never informed our apartment's occupants. When I went to the office to find out why, they asked if we were new tenants we had been here 4 years by then already Used to have folks in the office... If they had left cuz of covid, I'd get it. But they stopped accepting packages long before that and then shut the office down entirely afterwards. ... THEN covid hit. It used to be easy to get in contact with someone in the office, even when our own closed. But now it's impossible to navigate the phone system. Basically, we're paying more each year for less and less. Hot water went out, and they never informed us of this or whether it was being fixed. Oh, and once they gave us a run around about our lease for so long that we signed the renewal something like the day before our current one expired, when we initiated talks a month beforehand. That was super fun. Appliances in the apartment are nice. In unit W/D set. Location is convenient. The place itself is nice.
I read the reviews about not letting people walk in to check the apartments and they allow phone calls and emails only. I faced the same thing. They don’t respond to email and no one answers the phone call. I also went to checked Essex’s other community “Avenue 64” in Emeryville. It was a self guided tour. There was no guest parking available. When I texted the leasing agent, she didn’t respond. It’s really hard to get hold of the agent over the call. For the self guided tour, potentially no customer is going to spend time to find parking, keypad to unlock the building entrance and than finally the apartment in a community of hundreds of apartments. On-site agent would really make things easy.
AWFUL - DO NOT MOVE HERE - Feces in elevator and hallways - Insects everywhere - Parking is very limited unless you pay out the @$$ for in-building parking - Packages and mail getting stolen - Fire alarms go off at least once/mo and sometimes multiple times a day and week - Garbage in hallways and other locations in the buildings - "Amenities" are hardly usable - The staff is NOT HELPFUL. They actively do not allow you in to their offices for in-person visits not a COVID issue.. they let us talk to them in person before. They ask you to email or call. Emails do not get answered. Calls go to an off-site number and then connected to the folks in the office on-site. The issue is, the staff will not answer your call if you're a current resident. They will however answer if you're looking to rent a property from them. ** I tested this out - I called to request help/information about a package issue happened literally all the time as I was standing outside the office. The person on the phone said no one was available to take my call / they're busy. The staff was inside talking to one another... I called back immediately and requested information regarding looking at a unit. The person connected me through to an on-site staff and they picked up immediately and talked to me..** - I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess the management team will reply to this negative review before replying to any email from their current residence.... - Location is easily accessible but boring. Not much going on and close to the train
Worst service ever! The directions they provided for their virtual tour weren’t helpful at all. We called the leasing agents when we could not figure out the codes for the virtual tour and she kept parroting that all info was on the pdf they sent us. Mam, what language should I speak to make you understand I can’t open the flipping pdf you sent me. Like the leasing agent couldn’t be bothered to do her job! All she had to do was spend an extra few minutes to guide us! Was it too much to ask to do your job? Seriously! If they treat potential renters in this manner when they need the business, imagine how horrible the service would be should they no longer need to please after the lease is signed!
disclaimer: i’m sure everyone tries best here with what they have. but jesus christ this leasing office has always been unreliable to me. I would be able to show you about a dozen emails that were never replied to, and I usually have to personally follow up with them in office which can be like pulling teeth because they may be busy with several other things. I think the apartments are great and I’m happy with the amenities and pricing. but I really have to dock a couple stars for the leasing office being really bad getting our correct information in our lease renewal contracts, and being slow to fix them. I think they’re always in a rush when they’re trying to help me and the office deserves increased staffing and better organization to retain its residents better.
Everyone we get into contact with representing Emme is utterly incompetent. They always claim that others aren’t following their instructions, then in a months-later follow up they can’t find the emails and claim that WE’RE not doing any work. This establishment is the epitome of extreme negligence run by unintelligent monkeys whose only skillset is apologizing on review sites instead of taking some responsibility for their ineptitude! They should continue their trend of diminishing their staff and fire the whole Emme organization because nothing is better than whatever they think they’re doing.
If only there were negative star ratings, this place would be at the forefront of that! I was supposed to have a virtual visit and received confirmation email for the same. 20 mins past my visit time yet no one bothered to reach out for the scheduled tour. I kept calling the leasing office with no response. Some of my calls got diverted to the call center who weren't able to get a hold of their own staff either!!! Such a pathetic and unreliable service . Never expected this and have never faced such a scenario before. If you can't honor the timings atleast have the decency to inform in advance and reschedule!!!
It’s a decent apartment building, appliances are new. Being close to the railway could mean a lot of noise though.
