We save food from EMU dining halls that would ordinarily be wasted, and get it into the hands of food-insecure people in Southeast Michigan.
Food Recovery Network is a national nonprofit that unites students at colleges and universities to fight food waste and hunger by recovering perishable food that would otherwise go to waste from their campus dining halls and donating it to those in need. Their goal is to change the norm from food waste to food recovery in the United States.
Eastern Michigan University is (in the process of becoming) a university chapter. So far we have saved over 4,000 pounds of food from landfills and donated it to community partners that feed the people of Ypsilanti.
