About

Promoting the welfare of the community of Enfield, NY, by working with existing organizations and sponsoring new programming as needed.

Description

The following activities were sponsored by the Enfield Community Council during 2013:

YOUTH PROGRAMS – ECC in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County offered a variety of activities to 63 youths from age 9-17 years old. Programs ranged from Primitive Pursuits, CIT camp program, youth employment, Totally Tuesdays, Art&Soul!, Enfield Environmental Stewards, Outward Bound, and Midday Mentoring. They also helped set up and run the Country Faire and the Harvest Festival. Youth learned social skills, teamwork, decision-making, problem solving, self-esteem, empowerment and leadership through these after school and vacation programs.

YOUTH BASKETBALL- Last winter, 34 4th and 5th grade boys and girls are participating in basketball games with other elementary schools in the ICSD. Children are learning teamwork, good sportsmanship and skill building through this program.

SUMMER CAMP- Our 6-week summer camp was held at Treman Park, the best site ever-because we’re on vacation! 100 campers, including CIT’s attended. Before and after camp care was available. Programs included nature, sports, arts, science, creek exploring and swimming in the afternoon. There was also Primitive Pursuits offered twice a week and Wednesday Walkers. There were many field trips and special theme days. Fees are charged.

QUILTING GROUP - 5 women assembled the 2013 “Disappearing Nines Patch” quilt that was raffled at the 38th Annual Harvest Festival. Entitled “Dragonflies in the Meadow”, it was machine quilted by Oh Susannah’s in Watkins Glen.

NEWSLETTER - ECC published four issues of the Enfield Community Currents in January, April, July and October. This publication provides the community with town news, community updates and activity schedules. It was mailed to 1,025 homes.

ENFIELD COUNTRY FAIRE - ECC organized and held their first annual spring Country Faire on May 11th at the Enfield Elementary School. A pig roast was a main attraction along with music, games, and vendors.

HARVEST FESTIVAL - This event is ECC’s major fundraiser each year with all proceeds used to provide youth programs. In addition to the traditional events of children’s games, a quilt raffle (made by Enfield community members), chicken BBQ, silent auction and the ever fun ping pong drop, this year, we had the Enfield Fire Department, equipment from the Highway Department on display, Car Pride, and many vendors. The winner of the quilt was Karen Coleman.

COMMUNITY YARD SALE - A May community event was co-sponsored with the Enfield Firemen’s Auxiliary. Many people in the community participated. Baked goods/breakfast were available.

NEW COMMUNITY BUILDING - An ECC comittee was formed and met to plan the design, construction and fund raising for a new building which will house community events and expanded organizational activities. Fund raising will start in early 2014.
