The English undergraduate and graduate programs provide a broad-based educational experience that encompasses literature, technical writing, composition, rhetoric, film studies, and creative writing. Our program has small class sizes and friendly, knowledgeable faculty who are not only dedicated teachers but also regular contributors of scholarship in their areas of expertise. This past spring at the MSU honors recognition banquet (and in previous years as well), English (with Humanities and Philosophy) walked away with more than its share of finalists and award winners. The critical thinking and writing skills of our students help them as future educators, journalists, technical writers, and editors. Many of our recent students have gone on to graduate programs in law, English, and library science at UNT, SUNY, Arizona State, TCU, and Middlebury College in Vermont. We have need-based scholarship money at the English program level (each long semester) and merit-based scholarship money at the college level (Perkins Prothro each spring).
