I truly don't understand why people who are so hate filled are in the medical field. Every time we have been here, there have been so many rude encounters at this hospital. Nobody cares. And the ER is horrific. If you enjoy getting treatment in front of everyone in the waiting room, have at it. No bays, they just send you back out into the waiting room. IVs are done right there. Everyone hears your business. The patient care is cringe worthy. No wonder cross contamination runs rampant here. No gloves. No hand washing. Laziness. Wait times are ridiculous compared to other hospitals. The normal visit here is 4+ hours minimum every time we have gone. After 6 hours today we left.
I didn’t have an awful experience at all and I did get my problem fixed here and I seem to be healing up well. The doctor was very kind, informative, and comforting. I appreciate that a lot! A good bit of the nurses I encountered were a bit rude, wouldn’t tell me what was going on, I was left to sit in the bloodwork chair for like 3 hours. They also kept giving me weird looks because my face was swollen, but that was why I was there so that was quite dehumanizing and made me feel bad. One nurse came in a little too abrasive for me and I never confront hardly anyone, but I just had to tell them to be a little nicer as I’m in a lot of pain. One nurse I talked to while I was trying tell them my concerns didn’t even turn around while I was speaking to actually acknowledge my existence? They just made it pretty awkward for no reason. Also the room was a little iffy someone coffee grounds were left in a filter by the sink which doesn’t seem hygienic? Other than that everything was fine and made it back home feeling better so that’s always the goal. Thank you to the doctors and a few of the nurses there for making me feel better.
The nurses and even the doctor were incredibly uneducated about hemophiliaa severe bleeding disorder. The staff desperately needs to go back to medical school. There was also dirt and dust ALL over the floor, especially in the observation room. My apartment is cleaner than this hospital, which is sad. The wall was falling apart and had some type of mold or something growing from itI’ve inserted a picture. The security were pitiful, overweight, rent-a-cops+one real cop who was too old to work patrol but too broke to retire I guess… And why are the over weight nurses trying to act cute? Sweetheart, you’re about 50lbs too heavy to be acting like that.
We came in on a busy Friday night. Our experience was excellent because of the high quality of the staff. The chaos of the ER and multiple traumas coming in did not impact the level of kindness and patience exhibited by the staff and physicians. We also received the right care in a timely way. Very thankful for this hospital and this ER.
Hospital waiting area , treatment rooms nasty. Air vents on ceiling look like haven't been cleaned in years, bugs in the lights, walls, floors and even curtain needing to be cleaned . Felt like a nasty environment. ER resident did not listen to symptoms and lacked any bedside manner.
Doctor consults and treatment all take place in the waiting room - must've been 12-14 people all receiving there medicines, IV, etc all out in the public open waiting room. Very rude and lazy staff. Extremely unprofessional. Had my fiance not been in such need of medical attention I would've had a chance to read/notice all of their other horrible reviews and wouldn't have even considered bringing her there. Worst hospital/ER I've ever set foot in.
The staff and doctors are very nice. The one star is for the ER being VERY out dated! There is no privacy when being Triaged everyone can hear you business. The ER desk has specimen cups on the counter not used. Trash on the floor along with other fluids nasty bathrooms. Vending machines out of order. Old analog clock I haven't seen since elementary school. Old 80's style mirrors on the hallway walls. There have been some updates but only to the main lobby an cafeteria. The ER NEEDS MAJOR help. Poor people had been sitting the ER waiting room over 24 hrs. On a oxygen and catheter WTH? Dortor consults in the waiting room? My medical issues are not supposed to be on display. This hospital needs to do better! Thank you to the doctors and nurses for their kindness!
Having just had a 100% heck, let's make it 1000% negative experience at "Chattanooga's most highly rated health system" the other big hospital system, let's compare and contrast. Yes, the wait at Erlanger was long, but there was a REASON it was long, unlike The Other Hospital which held me hostage with no food or water for 8 hours with only 2 other people in the ER. There were a LOT of people in the Erlanger ER, I'd say at least 75. It was so crowded they ended up stitching me back together in a disused storage room. :- But they made sure it was sanitary; food, drink and restrooms were easily available during the wait; and the care, when it came, was absolutely top notch. I was amazed by the young resident who stitched up my finger. He was absolutely phenomenal, listened to my questions and concerns and addressed them with good humor. When was the last time you had FUN in an ER? That guy has a brilliant future as a physician until he burns out on the workload. The "Other Health System" is all front end. It looks pretty but the care redefines sub-par. Erlanger is pretty much the opposite. The physical plant is tired, but you get the impression that every person you talk to actually cares that you have a positive outcome. Oh, and for the record, they got me out of there several hours faster than the Other Place despite an overwhelming workload. Thanks to all the staff at Erlanger ER. I will insist on being cared for here for the rest of my life. You should all be really proud of your excellence in care.
Please, if you are able, GO ELSEWHERE. This was my first ER visit alone ever and I will absolutely not return to Erlanger for any issues in the future. You would think that ANY staff in a hospital setting would have a high regard for humans and caring for humans in general. I did not feel comfortable, respected or even acknowledged in this environment. I felt extremely uninformed about what was going on with my own body, which essentially is the reason you go to the ER first place. Nurses on their phones and 5-6 other capable staff standing around eating or gossiping as I waited for an update of some sort, at the very least, for almost 6 HOURS. To top it off, ~4 hours in, I find out they lost my urine sample. No one acknowledged this after FOUR HOURS!! Cleanliness, 0. Visible blood residue in consult rooms. Absolutely filthy bathrooms. I was extremely disappointed and appalled. I consider myself an understanding person and was not expecting to be treated like a queen; but surely did not expect to be treated as INVISIBLE. I have always held the Erlanger name in high regard up until this experience and, in the future, will do my best to avoid this establishment.
Arrived at ER at 9pm last night, I was treated by a so called resident. I have Pancreatitis along with diabetes. The resident was rude and unprofessional and somewhat childish. The nurses were incredibly rude. I was told I could not see the attending doctor and to sit down. I waited 11 hours and nothing. I would not recommend this ER for anything!!! Nurses were also talking about me as I could hear them. Very disappointed. Will never come back. Shame on you all!
