The limited periods of affordability in subsidized, deed-restricted homes further erode the existing stock. The need for housing in Essex County is enormous, but even as new homes are being built, a significant number are being lost to the market as the deed restrictions expire. In turn, the ECLT was designed by 28 of Essex County leaders in nonprofit, banking, development, and more to be the missing piece to the affordable housing puzzle.
