My experience with Exeter has been positive so far. I have a loan with them for 1 year now and I usually try to pay on time but if I can’t, I call them and they are normally very understanding. The representatives are courteous, professional, accommodating and always pleasant. I would recommend them to anyone. Definitely a 5 star for me. I love this company.
If I could give zero stars, I would! I paid my car off two years ago. And let’s just say I’m still trying to figure out how to get my title. To the car that I’ve paid off! I stupidly entered a very high interest loan and paid over double what the car was worth. But I just chalked that up to being young and naive. But beyond that, I never received my title, or any documentation that the car was paid off. And time passed, and life was busy, so I didn’t really worry about it too much. But at this point, I need the title, and I’m trying to get one from the DMV. However, they cannot issue me a title because there is still a lien on the vehicle. I contacted Exeter and they said they would be in touch with the DMV. A couple weeks have passed. Tried again to get a title, DMV says there has not been any communication from them. Supposedly they are now mailing me a letter stating that the car is paid off and the lien is now released. But they won’t be able to mail it until 7 to 10 business days from now. We’ll see. STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY!!!
I am leaving an honest review for Exeter. I have had a loan with them for a month now, I highly encourage setting up an online account and setting up instapay with your card number. Every payment I have made has been posted on my credit report as paid on time and is slowly building my credit score up. I started at a 500 credit score because I have never had credit, now it is almost in the 600 range and I am looking to refinance my car for a lower APR rate from 28% to 8% which I am doing through my local bank of America. Yes, the interest rates are high but they take people that are “high risk” AS LONG as you make your payments on time, your credit score WILL go up. From my own inspection, most of these reviews are from people who DID NOT make their payments on time and now they are having to deal with the circumstances of that. It is a good bank to start out with for building your credit up, but once you’re credit score is within good-standing I highly encourage you to refinance just like one of the representative told me. I hope this helps someone! they are not as bad as most of these reviews make them out to be. P.S. STAY AWAY from RICK HENDRICK CHEVROLET OF BUFORD.
I’m so glad that I didn’t choose this finance company. Today I went to get a new vehicle and they tried my whole life!! I was prepared to drop a few grand on the vehicle I wanted today; but Exeter wanted $13k!! How is this company even still in business. The Better Business Bureau needs to shut them down and I’m quite ashamed of Carmax for even using them as one of their lenders. Fortunately I didn’t go with them and I was able to get a new vehicle at a much lower down payment and APR.
Customer service are great, but their interest rates are very high not worth it if you are considering being stuck with them I believe refinance your car through navy federal if you are banked with them their interest rates are low an worth going through them.
DO NOT I repeat DO NOT use Exeter finance at all costs. You’re not allowed to make payments towards the principal until you’re 3 months ahead on payments. Also, they don’t do payoff quotes. They claim that’s what they are, but the total payoff amount is just equivalent to the total loan amount. You won’t save any money on interest for early payoff so don’t waste your time or give them extra money. If you have a loan thru Exeter I suggest you refinance immediately and get as far away from them as you can. Not worth the hassle or the money.
Very money hungry, ridiculous interest rate occurs daily. .. seems like a great idea at first after purchasing nice vehicle...but they will drain you dry .. Miscommunication... inconsiderate..better hope you do not get behind on a payment due to an emergency because the will hit you with late ridiculous late fees... Horrible..they need to be shut down and permanently go out of business immediately!
They don’t deserve any stars!!! This is the worst finance company. Horrible Horrible finance company DO NOT finance with them if there is another option. If they are your only option then you should wait until you’re in a better position to finance with someone else! Lately I’ve been making my payments earlier than the due date and they still charge me the interest as of my payment is late because it shows a large gap between payments…it’s like I’m being penalized for paying early. My entire last payment went towards the interest rate because I paid it early. Please even if you think you won’t get the deal I got try to get financed with another company. And God forbid you’re late then that’s late fees for being late and interest fees for being early. You will never pay your car off! Horrible!!!! Bad business!!!
To start, I knew this company was a thief before I agreed. I never intended to ride my entire loan out due to that. This is for people that can't afford better credit in a short period of time. Do not, under any circumstance, agree to a loan here if you can't afford to pay it off within a year or two. They put almost every penny you pay towards the interest up front so that you're forced to ride the loan out of you're paying just the amount they bill you. This should be illegal, but America is basically a third world country, so it's not. Either way, ride these loan sharks for a year at most then bail for a legit company.
Have never had business with this company and have had a ridiculous number of calls from them for months now. Edit I'm now getting multiple phone calls a day. I do not have any dealings with this company stop the harassment. Will be filing a complaint with the FTC.
