Paintings, and extensive research of the Lakota Sioux Nation and their role in this pivotal American battle retold directly from their own experiences.
Paintings, and extensive research of the Lakota Sioux Nation and their role in this pivotal American battle retold directly from their own experiences through the art and books of the late David Humphreys Miller. Miller, a native of Van Wert set out for the Pine Ridge Reservation at the age of 16, armed with a car and $100. He then began interviewing the 72 surviving warriors of the Battle of Little Bighorn and massacre at Wounded Knee which resulted in alternative theories of the events including who may actually killed General George Armstrong Custer. This is their story and the only collection of this artist’s work displayed in the United States. It is housed in the Wassenberg Art Center year round.
