Fairmont High School

Description

Kettering Fairmont High School is located in Kettering, Ohio, United States. It is home to approximately 2,500 students, making it the 6th largest high school in Ohio.HistoryThe original school was part of the Van Buren Township Schools and was opened in September 1906. The high school was located on Dorothy Lane just west of Far Hills Avenue. In 1922, the original four-room school was too small for the student population and was replaced by a larger building east of the original building on Dorothy Lane. The original four-room school house later became the first Kettering City Hall.As Van Buren Township began to rapidly grow as a desirable Dayton, Ohio suburban location, the new school on Dorothy Lane was quickly filled to capacity. In 1929, a new, modern building was built on Far Hills Avenue at the corner of Storms Road. The 1922 building became Dorothy Lane Elementary School. The cost of the new high school on Far Hills was $300,000 and led to its being called the "folly in the country." But it had to be expanded several times to keep pace with growing enrollment. The school mascot and colors were Dragons and purple and white. In 1934, Fairmont Stadium was constructed behind the school as a football and track and field venue for the school team. As interest in Fairmont football grew, a donation from the Foreman family, which had four sons who had been Dragon stars, helped remodel and enlarge the facilities. In 1954, the Village of Kettering, which occupied much of Van Buren Township, became the City of Kettering, one of the fastest growing in the area. The high school on Far Hills could no longer be expanded to house the growing student population. The Kettering Board of Education secured a large tract of land between Far Hills Avenue and Shroyer Road. A seven building campus style high school, the first of its kind in the Midwest, was opened in 1957 as a three-year high-school. The former building became Dwight L. Barnes Junior High School. Today, it is the home of the Kettering Board of Education.

Fairmont High School is by far the best school in Ohio. Clean is an understatement. Everyday when you walk in the floors are freshly waxed to point where you can see your reflection in the ground. The cafeteria is world class. Fully equipped with sou chefs, a sushi bar, a pasta bar, a salad bar, a sandwich/sub bar, a burrito bar, and a chocolate fountain. The athletic teams here, except football, are extremely successful. We have won 10 state championships in the past 3 years in various sports. Our coaches, students, and athletes are extremely dedicated. If you want a good environment for your child Fairmont is the place to go.
I went to Kettering schools my whole life . Fairmont and Kettering have great teachers and leadership yes like all places it has things it could improve upon but it's a great school that cares for everyone. 2015 graduate current at wabash college who was an athlete and national honor society member this school has a lot to offer if you apply your self and seek help when needed. Fairmont = Family
This school's administration has continually placed sports over other educational activities. The administration has refused to take disruptive students out of class because of their involvement in sports. This has hindered student's education and has angered many teachers. David Vesely, a wonderful latin teacher, has quit due to the administration's actions. Kettering Fairmont High School must get its priorities straight.
So I went to fairmont-- I have to say nothing good, at all. I was bullied every single day for four years, harassed and everything else. It was hard to go to school. It never got easier, there is one single person in the whole entire school who would take 5 seconds to notice a child who was being bullied. I went to a principal who deffinatly blew off my issues. Bullying is growing everywhere you look, shouldn't you try to prevent it instead of ingnore it? There has many other people I know who went there, and the same issue. The biggest problem is that the school has too any children, too big of classes. Which is too much for the teachers. The Elementary Schhols are great, I went to Southdale, and now have a Child at Oakview. I just WILL NOT send my son to Fairmont. He will be attending Alter. Fairmont is horrible.
The majority of the staff has no clue what they're doing, and rarely care about the well being of students. There is an extreme lack of communication between the staff and it really shows. There are too many students at the school, making the environment almost unbearable.
Graduated back in 2008, had a great time all 4 years. Some things could have been better but over all it was a good school
These people were nice too
