Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa

Description

The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa is a five-star luxury hotel and resort located in Sonoma, California. The property was built to resemble a Spanish mission, and sits atop Boyes Hot Springs, a natural, thermal mineral spring that is now used to offer spa services at the hotel. The property also has a 177-acre, 18-hole championship golf course.HistoryThe hot mineral springs that lie below the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa were first discovered by Native Americans who considered the site a sacred healing ground. Commercial development came years later, in 1840, and was accomplished by T.M. Leavenworth, a physician, and the last alcalde of San Francisco.Leavenworth built a home on the Sonoma land in 1849. In 1895, Captain Henry Ernest Boyes and his wife purchased the land and house from Leavenworth. Upon hearing about the hot springs that supposedly ran beneath their land, they dug two wells and discovered the thermal mineral water. They installed a pipe system, directing the waters into a huge tub.Within five years, they had built the Boyes Hot Springs Hotel. As word spread, more and more people from San Francisco began to visit the property to take advantage of the healing waters. The hotel and most of Boyes Hot Springs were destroyed in a 1923 fire. It wasn't until 1927 that a new inn was completed, containing three floors, and built in the traditional style of a Spanish mission, and once again gained popularity among the residents of Northern California.

What a wonderful experience! The entire team were absolutely fantastic and it made for a wonderful experience for me and my wife. Great rooms, superb grounds and the staff were superb. I have to give a particular shout out to Tasha who was working in the restaurant the night we were in there she normally worked in group catering. She was pleasant and seriously switched on, I hope the company is doing what they can to develop her career having met the General Manager an excellent chap, I'm sure they are as she was seriously competent.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Highlights of ours were the sparkling wine welcome, the fireplaces in the room, the board games and wine in the lobby each afternoon. It was a great experience that felt very small and cozy while it's a large property. We loved having a patio so we could enjoy the beautiful weather too. Really enjoyed our stay! Only con for me was the shower head : I feel like it's always an easy update!
Great place! They were laying a bit in available service staff to man the bar. The pool scene is cool. Large property that is well kept. Bar tender was extremely nice and great service.Rooms: 3/5
Love the grounds, comfortable rooms although ours was quite small. The afternoon wine tasting, the staff and the welcome drinks gives a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The pools can be more modern but it's quite clean and the waters very warm which I liked. There are two warmer pools than the main too. Food & drinks: Dining at the Santè was top-notched inn taste and in service. And the free coffee at the lobby was very good.
A great place to visit! My wife and I, who a year ago moved to Santa Rosa, made a visit here to tour the grounds and take in some local music. We were joined by Ann Ellsworth. Ann guided us through with a first stop to fill our glasses with wine being showcased. The lobby rich in decor and floral offered board games and seating areas for the whole family to enjoy. We sauntered through the spa, pools and gardens. Ann shared her knowledge of the grounds including the iconic water tower. Furthermore, her green thumb was present throughout the grounds since she and her team are responsible for them. All the staff members we met were delightful. We settled in at the outdoor music venue listening to sing along classic rock songs that lifted everyone's spirits-both tangible and intangible. Ann's energy is a blessing and complements the relaxed wine, food and music community that is represented eloquently at The Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa.
From the moment we arrived, the attention to detail and service was exactly what we would expect from a Fairmont hotel. The staff were all professional and so welcoming. The hotel graciously upgraded us to a Mission Spa Suite which was spacious, well kept and in a quiet location on the grounds. The resort pool was not busy and a comfortable temperature although showed some signs of age/wear. The poolside menu was tasty for a warm day in the sunshine and there were no shortage of available umbrellas for shade, when needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and will certainly visit again!
We were treated like royalty at Sonoma Mission Inn this weekend! It began with a personal welcome note and bottle of champagne from General Manager Edward Roe. He welcomed us back this was our third annual girls weekend. He even decorated my sister's room for her birthday! That's what I call service. The breakfast was healthy and delicious and the staff paid close attention to our coffee and mimosa refills! We met in the bar each evenings for cards and laughs and the wait staff was kind and attentive there too. Finally, the evening music, food truck and complimentary wine tasting was so fun. No need to ever leave the grounds! We did want to explore, however, so Fairmont staff booked us at a fantastic Kenwood winery, VJB Winery in nearby Kenwood. We were treated to an amazing 5-glass tasting with cheese and small plates to accompany it. I'll definitely be sending friends back there. Finally do not miss the morning hike with Ed! He took us to Jack London State Park and told us amazing stories about the author's life and writing as well as the grounds. It was an easy hike for all levels and he was such an informative guide.with fantastic stories to share. Finally and possibly most important, the staff at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn seems to really enjoy their work. All of their interactions with us and each other were positive and upbeat. The answer is always "yes" and with a big smile. A true testament to a well managed and cared for staff. We can't wait to return next year!
We love the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and visit as often as we can. The hotel itself is a beautiful property and their staff always go above and beyond for us! They are accommodating and thoughtful. I highly recommend this place and we can’t wait to return!Rooms: 5/5
I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional experience my family and I had during our recent stay at your property to celebrate my birthday. Without a doubt, this has been one of the best stays we've ever experienced at any Fairmont property. From the very beginning of our visit, your team made us feel incredibly welcome and valued. The bell and valet staff were not only helpful with our luggage and car but also set the tone for our entire stay with their warm and attentive service. The welcome drinks upon our arrival were a delightful touch and immediately made us feel at home. Although we had to wait for our rooms to be ready, we appreciated being able to explore the property and its amenities. Your willingness to accommodate our request to have our rooms on the same floor as my family exemplified your commitment to ensuring our comfort and convenience. The vast courtyard was a serene spot for us to relax and soak in the beautiful surroundings. The wine tasting in the lobby was a lovely experience and got us in the mood for the rest of our stay. Upon entering our rooms, we were pleasantly surprised to find complimentary bottles of wine waiting for us, which added an extra layer of luxury to our stay. The birthday amenity you provided was a thoughtful and touching gesture that made my celebration even more special. Our dinner reservation at Sante was nothing short of spectacular. Gabe, the F&B manager, went above and beyond to ensure that we had a dining experience we will never forget. The food, from the fresh Pacific oysters to the main course of lamb rack were all incredibly scrumptious and paired perfectly with the recommended wines. The surprise Michelin dessert, accompanied by a heartfelt rendition of the birthday song, truly made this evening one for the books. After a delightful meal, we had the pleasure of enjoying a relaxing swim at the tower pool. It was a was the perfect way to cap off an extraordinary day of celebration. Our time at your property was truly remarkable, and your team's dedication to providing exceptional service did not go unnoticed. This experience has left a lasting impression, and I can't wait to return in the future. Your attention to detail and commitment to guest satisfaction are truly commendable. I am already looking forward to our next visit, and I can confidently say that Fairmont Sonoma has earned a special place in our hearts. Thank you once again for making my birthday celebration one for the books.
I think what's best about this hotel is a the staff, b the grounds c the pool and d the recommendation of a driver. From my first call, I was treated in a welcoming and professional manner. It made a real difference. The pool is heavenly. The grounds are well maintained and a pleasure to visit. We were referred to a driver who was absolutely terrific. It made our experience just lovely.
