Families in Transition (FIT) Counseling Services provides counseling for individuals of all ages who find themselves in need of support.
Individual Counseling
Individuals come to counseling for many different reasons. The most common are depression, stress, and anxiety, all of which may be caused by many different life situations. As a licensed, Master's level Clinical Social Worker, I am committed to providing the assistance you seek in a comfortable setting.
Adolescent Counseling
Our teen generation isn't as tough as it sometimes acts.
Adolescents often ask themselves, "Why doesn't anyone understand what I'm going through?"
Being an adolescent is not easy. You're no longer a child -- but you're not quite an adult. You want to live by your rules, but your parents still control your independence. You want to try new things, but you have fears. All these conflicts you feel are real issues that can prevent you from enjoying life. They are no different than a physical ailment like a sore knee or a bad cold. No matter what kind of discomfort you suffer from, you must do something to make yourself feel better.
At FIT, adolescents and their parents will find counselling that doesn't place blame. This "finger-pointing" approach usually results in more conflict and distress. Instead, our counsellors are trained to work with you -- on a one-to-one basis -- to identify and understand the problems you face ... build the motivation you need to take control of and resolve your issues ... and make you more hopeful and receptive to specific positive change.
Counseling services that are designed for adolescents and parents. In addition, family therapy is available which involves all members of the family and encourages everyone to become more aware of how family relationships influence the choices of the adolescent -- as well as every other family member.
The focus is on real, everyday solutions to deal with real, everyday issues such as expectations, responsibilities and choices. Families learn to talk about narrowing their differences and making appropriate changes as a family.
It’s important for adolescents feel good about themselves and that their families need to continue to be the primary teachers in their lives. It is within the family structure that teens develop the morals and decision-making skills that will be carried over into their adult years.

B. COUPLES COUNSELING: Couples counseling helps couples — married or not — understand and resolve conflicts and improve their relationship. Couples therapy gives couples the tools to communicate better, negotiate differences, problem solve and even argue in a healthier way.
Couples counseling can be short term. You may need only a few sessions to help you weather a crisis. Or you may need couples counseling for several months, particularly if your relationship has greatly deteriorated. As with individual counseling, appointments are typically once a week.
C. GERIATRIC COUNSELING - Older Adults: A number of role transitions and losses heighten the vulnerability of the older person--children leaving me, career change, retirement, death of a spouse, isolation, and institutionalization. A shortage in personal resources and/or coping skills may mean a need for counseling services.
Families In Transition Counseling offers counseling for mature adults, and caregivers and their family members. Counseling services are offered in a safe, welcoming environment with a licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience helping you through the unique circumstances that accompany older adulthood.
Persons in the third trimester of life are often reluctant to seek help and view counseling with doubt, suspicion, and anxiety. They often rely on other professionals such as the family physician or minister, or their own support network of family and friends.

Depression, anxiety, and other emotional challenges are not a normal part of aging. While late adulthood can be one of the most transitional times in life, persistent feelings of sadness, nervousness, emptiness, and other such feelings do not have to accompany life’s changes. Older adults and their families can continue to lead full, enriching lives at any age.
