Farmer Foodshare is a farm sustainability and hunger relief organization based in North Carolina
• Donation Stations collect fresh food and funds from farmers’ market customers in order to buy food at farmers’ markets through our “Buy One, Give One” program. 100% of these funds are used directly at farmers’ markets to buy local food from farms. Partner agencies feeding the food insecure come to the farmers’ market to meet the farmers; work side by side with Farmer Foodshare during the food collection and then take the food back to their agency for distribution. (Access/Education)
• The Wholesale Market is a small scale food hub providing affordable local food to non-profit organizations and mission-driven community businesses in the Triangle. We seek customers who are interested in improving access to and education about fresh food. This program aims to boost family farm incomes and increase the health of our community, by brokering mutually beneficial transactions between buyers and local farmers/food producers. (Access/Job Creation)
• Food Ambassadors educates consumers and eaters about local, seasonal fresh food. Food Ambassadors seeks to increase the consumption, knowledge, and love of seasonal, local food through outreach and education. (Education)
Farmer Foodshare programs act as a source of community innovation to incubate self-sustaining projects that address poverty, hunger and farm loss. We work with community partners to build an inclusive, economically viable and socially just local food system in North Carolina.
