We are a 32 acre memorial landscape where we weave natural burials with cremation rituals together with Land restoration and preservation. We border the 200 + acres of the Golden Gate national Recreation area and we are the #1 premiere green burial cemetery in the State of California.
Our Main building is an Architectural Masterpiece built by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in 1973. It houses our gathering room for remembrance services and our crematorium. In addition, to the remembrance ceremonies, this room has also been used for educational retreats, retirement parties and even yoga.
As a Certified natural wildlife habitat, Fernwood supports the preservation of open space with a conservation based perspective offering eco-friendly end of life solutions.
Green burials can consist of
A wicker or wooden biodegradable casket
Or a simple shroud burial.
Engraved field-stones take the place of traditional headstones
And we are proud to incorporate GPS technology for burial locations.
In green burials, we don’t allow metals, plastics and chemicals so no embalming so this helps to recycle the body naturally.
Natural burials are significantly less expensive as compared to conventional burial options. Each Natural burial restores and preserves the native landscape.
