They used to be a good quaint store but now they just focus on social media and growing the business way beyond what it can handle. I had to unfollow them because I got so mad. You can post videos nearly every day but you can't answer my email? They don't follow up on anything they say they will and every communication with them ends up getting "lost." Sure it's a small business, but that should make it easier to manage emails and highlight the importance of keeping your existing customers. I feel very unwelcome at this place. Of note, its also hard to shop in store, it's small and when you walk in it's like "what are you doing here?" if they do even acknowledge you and full inventory is not online, but that did not factor into my rating. Classes are expensive and include nothing. On to finding a new sewing studio. Over it and do not like being taken advantage of by a business. You want us to support small local business and then they have poor service.
Lovely local shop with great, friendly service. Yarn can be a bit expensive, but keep in mind that you're supporting a local small business! They offer a lot of knitting, sewing, and other related supplies. The space itself is well-kept and sure to inspire creativity! A good place to browse or come look for a specific supply.
This is my favorite knitting and sewing shop, it’s become my second home! Everyone here is so friendly, helpful, and supportive. With a wonderful selection of fabrics and yarns, I’m inspired to create new things every time I visit. I’ve learned so much by taking classes here; the teachers really take the time to help you through every project. I would definitely recommend visiting anytime you’re in Leesburg!
Update: Finch responded very politely to my review and I admire them for engaging and addressing some of my comments. I’ll definitely keep Finch in mind when looking for specific yarns! I should start my review by saying that I am not a seamstress, but a knitter. I cannot comment on the sewing part of this store, but it seems to be varied, and they have beautiful fabrics on display. For the knitting part of the store, the positives are: friendly, solicitous service, a nice library of knitting patterns, beautiful Quince & Co yarns and some local yarns, and a selection of lovely notions. The space is beautifully set up and is very comfortable for sitting and browsing. The negatives are that the selection is small. There were few machine washable wool options, and the prices are high. I have yet to buy some yarn here, simply because I haven’t found what I need for my patterns. As a knitter, this store is disappointing. However, as someone who is interested in learning to sew, I would definitely come here for my materials and lessons!
I really can't say enough great things about this little gem of a place. Just walking in the door makes you happy...the vibrant colors, the cute decor, and the knowledgeable staff! They put a lot of thought into everything they do here and it shows. I have tried learning to knit off & on through the years and it always ended in failure. I am so happy to say that after Knitting 101 at Finch I am a knitter! I progressed to Knitting 102 and am signed up for the Block class starting this fall. The sense of community Finch creates is magical. They encourage that feeling of being creative together by offering knit nights and other social events centered around various projects. That sense of community shows as well in the beautiful Finch boxes. How cool that we can get a piece of Finch in the mail every other month. It's obvious that a lot of care and thought go into each box and they are intentionally designed to have us try new and different projects. If you are creative or just wish you were, Finch Knitting + Sewing is the perfect place for you!
Just got back from a 3-day retreat with Finch and Katie Kortman in the Shenandoah. I met a wonderful group of creative women in a gloriously shabby chic mansion to paint fabric, sew garments, and make fun & fancy crowns. The facilities and instruction were terrific, the food yummy, and the laughter in full force. I felt lucky to be there. The owner of Finch, her staff, and Katie went above & beyond, and I went home a very happy girl with a great dress & new crown!
I was greeted as soon as I came in the door. I felt very welcome. I am from California and the town is very quaint. Looks very New England. I love the brick on the buildings and the Finch is so nicely set up. I found everything I needed and bringing back gifts for my friends. Looking forward to knitting night on Tuesday. Can't say enough about this place. Well done in every way.
Up until last week, I would have given Finch 5 stars. My daughter has taken classes and a summer camp there and really enjoyed it. She received a summer camp for her birthday this spring and less than 24 hours prior to the start of camp, I received a chipper email from them saying, sorry for the “kind of last minute notice” but they were canceling the camp due to not enough participants and I could enroll my daughter in the August camp or get a refund. I emailed them expressing my dissatisfaction with the last minute cancellation and told them my daughter couldn’t attend the August camp as we were on vacation. I didn’t really want a refund...this was a big birthday present for my daughter. I received a second email from the owner who said she was “heartsick” about it and my daughter could come to the August camp. Again, not an option for us. Finch Sewing has a firm policy for customers on their website that they will not accept cancellations from customers for classes/camps less than 72 hours prior to the start. Guess they don’t feel the need to extend that courtesy to their customers. Very disappointed.
Had to add to my post... my 9yr old daughter has taken sewing classes at Finch and loves them! She has made a pillow, pjs, a tray and most recently a chanel jacket!!! The teachers Rebecca & Molly are very patient & knowledgeable. We also bought a sewing machine from Finch. Nicole was so helpful in helping us find the perfect sewing machine for our daughter & offered personalization on the machine too! Can't wait to gift it to her for xmas. Highly recommend the kids classes! ----- Such an awesome store to visit, sit awhile and knit! Staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. I must come back on a knit nights with friends! I have already signed my kids up for sewing classes. Great Store, such an asset for our community.
I thought this was a lovely store, until I signed up for the much touted Finchbox. We had a choice, 1 for "knitters" or 1 for "sewers". I signed up for a knitters box. Each box is $50. The first box was just that...full of items for knitters. The second box had nothing to do with knitting. It had a little note pad, a kit to string beads and make a necklace and a little pouch in which to put the necklace. The necklace was basically string, a few occasional beads and a charm that said "make". First, I signed up for a "knitting" box, not a "random craft" box. Second, really?, who would wear that!? I called to ask about returning this box and was told "we have a zero return policy" and that they thought "their customers would like to try something different". This was only the 2nd box...we haven't had time to want something different AND we should have been given a choice to either accept "something different" for the $50 fee or skip to the next box. I followed up with an email asking to return for store credit and received no response. Bottom line, this is bad business. They took the money and delivered something different than what was advertised. Then, chose to ignore it and lose a customer than make it right.
