Robert Hall was born in December 1963 and was raised in New Albany Indiana. When he was six years old he recognized that art in almost all mediums was a passion of his. His teachers noticed that he had talent, and started giving him art supplies, such as scrap pieces of paper and pencils to create with. Over the summers as a child he fondly recalls covering his grandmothers kitchen table in graphite drawings, and when he had filled it up, she would wash it off and he would start all over. He made it a point to practice every day, even from such a young age.
When Robert was 21 years old, he began to feel like he could start pursuing a career in art, and he started by etching memorials and headstones for monument companies. Doing this he traveled the country etching for almost a decade. One of his most famous etchings is in Fort Campbell Ky, a 10,000 pound granite memorial to the Fort Campbell victims of the December 1985 plane crash in Gander Newfoundland.
Once his daughter was born he didn't want to be on the road most of her life and miss her growing, so he stopped etching, and that's when his life as a tattoo artist began. Tattooing for Robert Hall is a passion, but one that pales in comparison to his passion for oil paintings.
To Robert, oil painting is the only thing that relaxes him, the only way he can truly find peace. The desire to create with brush and canvas in oils is an undeniable passion, and it's one that he feels he has to do. Painting for Robert is like meditation to others, it's when his mind is really clear, when every other time the artists mind is full, and running rapidly.
