Choosing a place to send your loved ones, is a difficult decision. You can rest assure that they will be cared for greatly at Firesteel. The staff here, gets to know the residents on a personal level and not view them as a person that they just need to take care of. They do an excellent job with comminuting the needs to the frailly. I want to thank all of you for the excellent, compassionate care you all provided for the residents at Firesteel!

Almost a year ago I had to move my parents from assisted living to a long term care facility. I wanted to have them as close to Sioux Falls as possible but was unable to find anyplace in a 50 mile radius. I was very hesitant about moving them 70 miles away but I did end up moving them to Firesteel. Little did I know at the time that this is where they were meant to be! Firesteel is wonderful facility. The staff is amazing!! They treat my parents with a kindness and respect that is amazing. My parents are incredibly happy there which makes it much easier to be 70 miles apart. I feel so very blessed to have found such a wonderful home for them. I visit as often as I can but when I can't be there, I know they are being well taken care of.

Truly one of the worst nursing homes. They ignore calls outright and are extremely rude. The manager and head of nursing are horrible to deal with. They put on a facade of kindness but as soon as you make a complaint, you're told that the patient is 'crazy' and not telling the truth. They have put my loved one in very uncomfortable positions more than once. His health and comfort come last. Avoid this place!

Think twice before trusting the care of your loved one to the staff at Firestreel. My father-in-law a veteran of the Vietnam war is treated very poorly with little regard for his health or safety. Since going into Firesteel he has dealt with crowded rooms where the nursing staff talk loudly outside his door at all hours, exposed bolts in the foot and headboards of his bed that scratched his feet and head, lack of room climate control, so its either freezing cold or too hot depending on the time of year. The latest issue seems to be that they are unwilling or unable to fully dry his clothes, which is awful when he has to sit in his room with the AC blasting. These issues and many more have been reported by him as well as through us, and their reaction is always the same. They shift blame or outright gaslight you. My wife has tried very hard to get them to take these issues seriously, and now Firesteel will not answer calls and Empres that manages Firesteel will do nothing to help him. There seem to be no checks and balances. We are constantly in a state of worry about what might come next and hope to move my father in law to another facility.

Firesteel's physical therapist are the best. I've worked with Amber, Chris and Renee for many months now. I broke my right knee in three places and broke my left foot. I had extensive surgery and had a 2 mon.stay at facility and am now doing out patient physical therapy. I HIGHLY recommend them. A very satisfied patient, Patty Heitzman.

I recently visited a friend at Firesteel and was very impressed with the quality of care my friend was receiving. Everyone who entered her room were kind, considerate, compassionate, and willing to work around her schedule to provide the best care possible. Very impressed with all that I saw.

My family member was there for months and I spent quite a bit of time observing and critiquing the care of my family member and others. The care was exceptional and the staff very safety conscious. I requested several changes to her care but when denied the staff were able to respectfully explain the reason behind the denial. I was doubtful at first until I spent some time reading the SD DOH web site material. I strongly suggest anyone entering a nursing home or assisted living residence educate themselves on the regulations they must abide by. It will help you understand so much more about the process. You can also look into the past sins of each and every facility. I was overwhelmed at how well the staff actually cared for their patients individually. I watched as they treated my grandmother as though she were their own grandmother but they did that throughout the entire wing we were in or traveled through. You would see it at meal time too. The administration kept us updated on the entire medicare process and answered our many questions even staying pretty late to accommodate us. The nursing staff knew all of my grandmother's quirks and preferences in pretty short order. Another part of this facility I loved is all the "extra" that they have. They have several church and devotional activities there--something for pretty much anyone. They had a fantastic service I forgot the name where a couple came in to sing hymns and do devotions. I loved it! They also have a hairdresser a couple days a week who is caring and gentle. They had many other activities I couldn't convince my grandma to venture out for. I did get a little frustrated with having to wait for a staff member to come let you out after 8pm but the movement after that time is so slow I can see not wanting to pay someone to sit at the door.

There is a complete lack of order and responsibility . There is no level of standard care. Employees run around and play like children , leave residents unattended . 3 days was far to long to have a loved one there . I have seen several nursing homes in mitchell and surrounding areas . This is one of the worst , I would not recomend this place to anyone.

Do not send love one there.We My mom was there for 3 weeks and she died. Not enough help was excuse. Forgot to give her supper, excuse that nurse is just that way. We are short of staff. Very poor

Within hours we knew my grandpa was not going to get care he needed. 27 minute wait for bathroom assistance is completely unacceptable. We moved him out
