My dad's service was back in August, 2016 and they still have not got his headstone inscribed. I have called and spoke with Wally about this a couple times. The last time I talked to him was over a month ago and I told him at that time, "It's been over four months since my dad was buried and you still have not got his headstone inscribed with the date he died. That is unacceptable." Wally, told me he would get it taken care of and call me back. I never heard from him again. At this point, I believe I will need to hire someone else to go out and do the job which Fisher Funeral Home should have taken care of months ago. They are really friendly there and the service was okay. However, my dad had been living with me before he died and I could barely tell it was him in the casket. Whoever they used as a mortician did a horrible job. I had a handfull of people who attended the memorial service tell me that they didn't even recognize my dad. Also, even though there was not a graveside service, I made a point to go out to the cemetery when they lowered him into his final resting place. I would have done this, even if my dad had not told me "make sure they bury me in the same casket you paid for." The reasons for this was because he had told me he thought Fisher Funeral Home had swapped out the casket he had purchased for my mom, which was used in the memorial service when she died in 2009; and likewise, the one he purchased for my sister who also died a week after my mom died. However, he liked Wally and still wanted me to have his service handled by Fisher Funeral Home; but he did have some trust issues with them. So, that is what I did to honor his wishes. Based on other reviews I have seen here, it would seem as though it's the luck of the draw. Maybe you'll get lucky and get a great job from them and then again, maybe you won't. I do not have any experience with any other funeral homes in Albany, and hope I don't have a need to do so. With that said, I have no way to compare them with other funeral homes in this area. However, I cannot recommend them to anyone because they have been so derelict in their duties as a funeral home; and do not appear to be concerned about charging customers for services that they perform poorly, or choose not to perform at all. EDIT: After I finally talked with Tom Ordeman, the President of Fisher Funeral Home, he quickly took care of getting the headstone/monument matter resolved. I wish I had spoken with him a few months earlier; and saved a lot of frustration. Accordingly, I bumped up my rating from a 2 star to a 3 star rating.
The last thing anyone needs is extra stress during a time of loss. You can count on Fisher to handle the worries of planning and walking you through the process. I can’t imagine using anyone else during difficult times. Professional, compassionate and easy to work with.
Great people to work with. Family owned multi-generation Albany family makes you comfortable that you are working with your neighbors. The family is also very involved in the community. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Always available 24/7. Compassionate funeral staff and very helpful. All my family have been through Fishers. Very reliable.
Staff was friendly, efficient and very helpful. Katie Super lived up to her name and I was very satisfied with every aspect of this process during my difficult time.
Most compassionate people to work with, Jeff was very helpful and handled everything. I even had him plan my funeral.
Wonderful people and made my sister-in-law look very peaceful. It was nice.
