This is a beautiful hidden gem in the mountains. Such a great place to watch fall colors from the gorgeous scenery that envelops you. You are within walking distance to Fontana Dam. Several family activities. They also offer camp sites with hookup and showers and restrooms on site at the base of the dam. Gorgeous views. Had a bear swim across the river right in front of us. Amazing memories. And if you're visiting tail of the dragon, it's very close and a great weekend get away for your dragon fix
The village staff were all friendly and respective, it's located in a beautiful area of NC. The reason I gave only 3 stars is the room I stayed in was strait out of the 70's and our three night stay resulted in me having to go to the main lobby three times to get towels and wash rags for the four of us, and no-one came to pick up our dirty towels and rags so I just placed them in the floor. I really don't want to sound like I'm complaining because other than the dated room and the towel thing we had a blast and the resort is absolutely beautiful, and the staff was friendly and the food was good too.
We stayed at the resort for a weekend and can't wait to go back. The restaurant's are fantastic.what a great place. Fire pits friendly people. Great little gift shops. Get your gas before you go very expensive there. The cabins are well kept. Great place to stay.
The resort is in a beautiful location up in the mountains and provides great access to the tail of the dragon. The rooms themselves are quite dated but serve their purpose, you didn't come to the mountains to spend all day in a resort room anyway. The service for the stores and restaurants is great but they have odd operating times so make sure to shop before they close. Nearby activities: The tail of the dragon is the premier activity close to the lodge. The tail and the surrounding roads make the trip a must for any bike rider or driver looking to have a scenic drive with a bit of a challenge. Food & drinks: The restaurant in the resort serves surprisingly great food and has impeccable customer service as its usually not very busy.
Our experience with Fontana Village Recreation was absolutely fantastic. Joshua and Gabrielle were incredible. They were so helpful and personable. Both of them engaged with our kids and made the experience here unforgettable. Joshua gave us so many great recommendations for mountain biking in the area. He really helped make our trip so enjoyable. I don’t think we have ever met a more passionate, kind and genuinely nice person. Fontana Village has a little of something for everyone. The area was incredibly clean and the pool was amazing. We were so impressed!
We stayed there 2 weeks ago we was there 5 nights 4 of them had no electricity!! The carpeting was falling apart in our room, we don't know if anything worked because we never got to use anything because like I said there was no electricity. And it's heyday I bet that was an amazing place! But now it's old indeed the only thing that's even slightly cool is the lodge And even that had its issues in the dark . They did give us a free continental breakfast while we was there But because it was about 5000 miles to town we had to eat it The whole tale of the dragon thing is nothing but a tourist trap and I personally will never go back
Great location with lots of history but if you are planning to stay here be ready to feel like you where on a 1 star motel. Nice to come just for the day and have some lunch at the restaurant but that's it. We drove all the way from South Carolina to spent 2 nights at a cabin and we where expecting at least a clean place. Almost all the pots were with food left over from other people, since there is no dishwasher or spong and pots are really old then you can expect to see people won't clean this. There is no wifi so you must take your car to lobby anytime you need it. Then we went to the bedrooms and comforters seem not be washed for at least 6 months. Then the the white sheets underneath where covered in a white powder that seemed to be cheap soap. We had to clean all 3 beds. Extra covers where not clean either, you could smell smoke in some of them. The amount of money charged for this cabin was not worth at all. Outdated cabin, old carpet and an old TV. Outside some rusted chairs and a table. Not BBQ grill or anything. Will definitely won't ever come here. Forgot to mention we heard some gunshots early in the morning right across the cabin..
Great location, the restaurants were pretty good too. The cabin I rented was just okay: Needs updating or at least a very deep cleaning and patching up of the small things, like rust on the fridge, and poor tv quality. the place had a STRONG pinesol smell when we arrived and had to air the place out a bit. There were 3-4 roaches to kill, and rodent traps under the sink that were thankfully empty. The thing that bothered me the most was there was no phone line to at least the front desk, nor wifi or cell service to use in absence. If there was an emergency out there it would not be quick/easy to call for help.
The cabins were in relatively good shape despite their age. Many had new roofs. As a heads-up, don't expect to get cellular service while there. There is Wifi at the lodge and the large hall. No wifi in the cabins which means no wifi calling. In this modern age it is hard to fathom why they haven't mounted outdoor access points throughout the village. The other infrastructure they need to improve is the cable TV service that the cabins are supposed to have. Almost 40 channels listed in the welcome packet. We were able to get channels 2 - 5 only. And those had so much snow it was difficult to view. I notified management each day and nothing was resolved during my 5 night stay.
Really cool resort. Over the past 20 years I've stayed there several times, in the lodge, the cabins, and at the campground. I would give it 5 stars except there is no WiFi or cell service in the lodge rooms, only in the lobby of the lodge and a couple of other places where they have Verizon hotspots with cell service if you have Verizon or don't mind roaming} and WiFi. If you're looking to get away from technology, then 5 stars all the way.
