Our Mission: Providing Food Security. Promoting Self-Sufficiency.
Oklahoma is one of the hungriest states in our nation. On average, one in six Oklahomans do not know where their next meal is coming from. These include families who are struggling to make ends meet, children who live in poverty, and seniors who live on a fixed income. Many of those who are helped would be considered newly unemployed or underemployed.
The vision of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma has been to parter with strategic regions of our state to increase food distribution capacity, represent the face of hunger, and build bridges to shorten the line.
Here are a few of our core characteristics: client choice shopping, extended hours and days of operation, an emphasis on nutritious foods and meal planning, the distribution to smaller agencies throughout our region, and additional services/resources to help improve the overall stability of our clients.
A few of the benefits of this model include: a better utilization of community resources for long term sustainability, increased efficiency and effectiveness, a greater understanding of the issue of hunger, the potential for partnership and collaboration, volunteer opportunities as well as donor engagement. Each Food and Resource Center includes an intake office/waiting area, a shopping area including fresh produce, walk in coolers and freezers, a multi-purpose room, and an operations warehouse.
Multiple foundations and donors have had a monumental part in turning this vision into a reality. Our desire is to see businesses, churches, civic organizations, schools, etc. from all across South Central Oklahoma join us in the fight against hunger through financial contributions as well as hard working volunteers. Will you partner with us?
Our mission is simple:
To provide food security and promote self-sufficiency.
