George and his team are experts at creating beautiful food; enjoying the instant gratification of serving people something they love. They see food as art, the plate acting as a canvas for color, texture and flavor.
Here, you’ll find food that’s not pretentious, just delicious.
The farm-to-table concept is at the heart of FoodBar. Like a true Southerner, George says it’s the only way he’s ever really known to cook. He hand-selects ingredients that are fresh, local and seasonal, crafting dishes that are unique, yet approachable. The frequently updated menu celebrates the bounty of the land and sea, serving regional seafood, meat, fowl, and game pairing with farmer’s market inspired selections.
FoodBar is a “from scratch” kitchen through and through, sourcing local ingredients whenever possible. Providers include Snow’s Bend, Michael Dean’s Terra Preta Farm, Petals from the Past, Farmhouse Produce and local meat purveyors.

That’s why George places just as much emphasis on fresh ingredients for cocktails as he does entrees.
You’ll find drinks that are approachable, interesting and diverse, but never watered down. FoodBar offers a rotating bar menu, featuring libations handmade from liquors infused with seasonal fruit. Fresh muddled cocktails and a full bar are available, along with local beers on tap and a wine list hand selected to accompany the menu.

Perhaps that love for working the land spills over into FoodBar’s décor.
Walk in the restaurant, and you’ll be transported to a simpler place. George traded white tablecloths for handcrafted wood tables and walls paneled with reclaimed barn materials. Patrons dine surrounded by local art, family photos and George’s personal mementos. An expansive serpentine bar anchors the space, creating a perfect spot to end a long day at work. Patio dining and a large community table are available.
The restaurant’s physical location was also carefully considered. As a founding member of Birmingham Originals, George saw an underserved market in the Cahaba Heights area, just a few minutes down the road from his own home. The folks south of Red Mountain needed a welcoming neighborhood restaurant and bar and the Heights Village was just the place.
FoodBar is a community watering hole in the making.
