Fort Collins Montessori School provides an educational opportunity to Fort Collins families, utilizing the philosophy and methods of Dr. Maria Montessori.
Fort Collins Montessori School's mission is to create a high-quality, classic pre-K-9 Montessori school that will inspire and empower children with an exceptional and proven educational experience based on the principles and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori.
The concepts of the “whole-child”, “mixed-age groupings”, family involvement, and community are integral to this educational approach and will be keystones at Fort Collins Montessori School. These philosophical and educational concepts involve engaging the intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of each person in a setting with younger and older students working and learning together in community. At Fort Collins Montessori School children will be given the opportunity to work in a prepared learning environment in which highly trained Montessori guides (teachers) assist each child’s academic and social development. Our school will create an atmosphere in which children are intrinsically motivated, enthusiastic, responsible, committed life-long learners who exhibit an undeniable personal strength in their knowledge of self at each stage of their growth and development.
Vision
Our vision is of a classic Montessori school where we foster the best in each child. We envision a developmentally grounded, individualized educational program that will support the natural intelligence and potential within each child. Children will work in a prepared learning environment where they will flourish as enthusiastic and responsive learners, and as innovative and collaborative problem solvers. Socially, our school will model the universal themes of respect and responsibility for self, community, and the natural world.
Our Core Values Are:
Respect for children, their development, and education
Support of the individual and community within the school
Respect for all living things
Respect for well-being and healthy nutrition in school
Living and working in peace
Environmental stewardship
Social responsibility, inclusiveness, and compassion
Community consciousness and understanding at local and global scales
The development of Fort Collins Montessori Charter School is in its beginning stages. It is our ultimate hope to provide a high quality, alternative educational opportunity to families in Fort Collins according to the philosophy and practices of Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952). Based on evidence from over 40 countries and more than 40,000 Montessori schools worldwide (500 public Montessori programs in the US and 8 public Montessori Charter Schools in Colorado), we have every faith that students will flourish in a courteous and collaborative environment where personal discipline is cultivated and realized, and where students learn experientially by investing themselves in the process.
We aim to open in the Poudre School District in the Fall of 2014. Depending on enrollment interest, we initially plan to serve grades pre-K-3rd with the goal of eventually serving students pre/k-9.
